People that say this miss the value that an Acute Care Service can/SHOULD bring to patients/hospitals and elective surgeons. The downstream revenue of a HPB surgeon who doesn’t have to do EGS is significant AND patients benefit from timely care. Win-win!

If the trauma/ACS division is taking all of the emergency general surgery workload, thus freeing your division up to spend its days cranking out preapproved high-RVU elective cases, you’d better not go on about how ACS isn’t pulling its financial weight for the department.

Cognitive load in OR matters - @TaraCohenPhD at #AHPBA2023: each time a surgeon interacts w flow disruptions 👉🏻 error spaces. Disruptions come from systemic organization & influenced by bias. Solutions? Build resilience in system/team, not only individuals.

Three things surgeons discover (eventually). I love being a surgeon. I trained hard. I want to do the best job I can. Family is more important than work. As soon as you leave/retire you are replaced and quickly aren’t mentioned again. #lifeistooshort #WorkLifeBalance

Stop sacrificing yourself for your profession if it means ignoring the feelings of dread, fatigue, low motivation and foggy headedness. These are indicators of a toxic workplace. It might not feel toxic to others but it's certainly toxic to you now. It's not noble to stay.

Unless you’d like to get run over by a rich, angry tech bro with a chip on their shoulder, you might want to tread lightly when asking a Tesla driver about their car. Here are things you should never say to someone who owns a Tesla.
