Almost 34 years of life and I’ve just now discovered the wonders of the charcoal chimney starter. I can now be free from the bondage of lighter fluid.

@MattWalshBlog Oh Matt. If you are using lump charcoal you haven't seen anything then. All those years I wasted in the chimney.

@MattWalshBlog Stumbled on here from a Seattle post and just wanted to celebrate you all. This is by far the sanest thread I’ve read in days. Comments about dads, lighter fluid, grills... Normal life. 💜 Cheers 🤙🏻 and happy grilling!

@MattWalshBlog I just stack a pyramid like normal, and then just stack a pile of newspaper right under it. It always lights like normal! Just takes about 15 minutes to get fully lit.

@MattWalshBlog And to cook just a couple of steaks with a great sear, medium rare, put the grate on the chimney and throw the steaks on. Less charcoal needed, tons of heat!

@MattWalshBlog Took me 60 years to make the switch from gas to charcoal! I’m fortunate to have a grillmaster as a neighbor.

@MattWalshBlog Welcome! Lol! I start my chimney on a Weber and use this old 2 tier to cook on. Are you aware of beer butt chicken? Soon you will smoke a turkey...lol, best ever.

@MattWalshBlog We did the same thing with an old tin coffee can ever since I can remember growing up. I think everyone else here did too.

@MattWalshBlog I like the electric charcoal lighter. It's the thing in home alone he put on the doorknob.

@MattWalshBlog What? Lighter fluid is the best thing humans have ever created. Every summer Saturday night when we were kids my sister and I would stand at a respectful distance from the barbeque and watch Dad detonate that glorious fuel-air explosion. Oh, the nostalgia.

@MattWalshBlog I really like the chimney. Look into paraffin cubes you can use as a starter. One in the base and one in with the briquettes works wonders.
