is reversing decision to send National Guard helicopter and crew to southern border, citing policy of separating children from parents. “It’s cruel and I humane and I told the National Guars to hold steady and not go down to the border — period.”

Baker continued on National Guard: “We won’t be supporting that initiative unless they change their policy. ... They’re not going to the border.”

on reversing call to send National Guard to border. “I thought the administration’s current policy was the wrong policy and that they should change (it).
“Border security is important, no one disputes that. But separating kids from their families is not.”
Cleaning up the original quote (I apologize for the fat fingers):

@PressSec

Baker is doing what's right, but it's purely political. He knows he is facing a serious challenge in November. He prefers to do his dirty work during holiday seasons & when he can hide them. The fact that he was willing to send our National Guard in 1st place was unpopular.
