For the record I easily got into the car through the passenger door, then opened the driver door by just pushing the button. I scraped the ice off in ~30 seconds and the handle opened up easily. Apparently the easier fix is just to bash the handle with your fist to break the ice.

This is not nearly as big of a deal as the vitality of the original tweet would suggest.

@DirtyTesla @elonmusk Everyone here is telling me I’m dumb. That would work, but for other owners who are not inclined to troubleshoot issues like this by consulting the owners manual or twitter, why not just have a button in the app?

@MatchasmMatt @elonmusk These cars are gonna get tore up in the harsh northern winters. Long commutes, sub zero temperatures and lots of deicing chemicals on the roads that love to eat up electrical components. Love Elon but I am going to stick with my gasoline powered vehicles.

@DrowningAFish @elonmusk The button on the inside works, which could just as easily be triggered by the app. The ice only prevents the mechanical opening of the handle which triggers the opening mechanism of the door. Don’t criticize what you don’t understand!
