Interesting to see which western embassies have issued individual statements on the killing of lawyer Hanan al-Barassi in Benghazi in addition to supporting joint UN/EU statements.
Notable that 🇫🇷, given it generally likes to project on HR & freedom of expression, has not yet.
France has been shy in highlighting the case of another woman targeted in Benghazi - MP Siham Sergewa who has been missing since July 2019 after she criticised Haftar’s war on Tripoli - as noted here:
Diplomatically, notable how shy 🇫🇷 - given its HR projection - appears to be in highlighting Sergewa case. While 🇫🇷 signed joint EU statements, it has not individually highlighted Sergewa case as it did w the case of a woman recently abducted in Tripoli (& thankfully released).
Good to see a comment from France today on the assassination of Benghazi lawyer Hanan al-Barassi. It happened in response to a journalist’s question at a foreign ministry press briefing.
