BREAKING: Government gives go-ahead for thousands of NHS redundancies
hsj.co.uk
NHS England launched a voluntary redundancy scheme today, with integrated care boards expected to follow soon, following a much-delayed national agreement with the Treasury, HSJ understands.

In general the smaller the GP practice the better the satisfaction from patients, the more appointments offered per patient, the shorter the waits, lower costs Yet …@wesstreeting is pushing for large Neighbourhood Centres ignoring existing GP practices Why? What’s the reason?

stuck with redundancy costs for a chaotic reorganisation he can't not finish, an unaffordable 8.5yr plan he can't start... ... a row with the doctors he doesn't know how to end and nowhere near the beginning of sorting out social care.

What a disgrace! Almost 150,000 people aged 90 and over endure 12+ hour waits in A&E every year. Some for days, left in corridors, in their own waste, denied pain relief. Our elderly deserve care and respect, not neglect. Sort it out, @wesstreeting. https://t.co/aLLuIvZoPc

Peak gaslighting once again! The government FORCE all patients to fill in online requests (NOT a consultation!) to access their GP… Then frame this rise in digital requests as proof that patients want more online access?! ALL LIES! Patients just want to see an actual GP!
📈 Over 6.5 million online GP consultation requests were made last month. That's up nearly 50% on the same period in 2024. Patients want digital access, and we're delivering it. All part of our work to end the 8am scramble for appointments.

GPs in Scotland agree £531m in funding for recruitment 889 GP practices Scaled up to England’s 6229 GP practices @wesstreeting will give you the opportunity to understand the need That’s £2.46bn or £39 per patient Which coincidentally is exactly the amount of £ cut in 10yrs

GPs to be mandated to see 90% of ‘clinically urgent’ on the same day - my thoughts on why this imposed target will decimate general practice as we know it. https://t.co/XVHm3TOOG5

For the NHS, it’s another escalation in a destructive cycle brought about by an inexperienced health secretary, advised by people who want us to make the same mistakes they made 20 years ago. It’s time for a change.

Oh Ffs 🤦♀️ You know what would help more sick & disabled patients get back to work?! Using the funding to employ unemployed GPs to TREAT patients rather than hiring job advisors in GP surgeries to pressure & guilt-trip unwell people back to work!
We're putting job advisors into GP surgeries across England & Wales as part of our #PlanforChange to help more sick & disabled people into work. It's time to stop treating health & work in isolation. That's why we've announced an extra £167 million investment in #ConnecttoWork

Elderly patients are being left behind by the NHS digital-first model. Not everyone has a smartphone or fast reflexes for callbacks. We need: ✔️Clear offline options ✔️Face-to-face support ✔️Policies that keep older people connected and supported https://t.co/tIMTagDTGL

If you are 93 like my mum and faced with QR codes, online booking forms and telephone callbacks, it is becoming harder, not easier, to see a GP. This digital-first society is pushing a lot of older...

You’ve waited months for your operation. You’ve waited hours in A&E. And yet; thousands of doctors who want to become surgeons and emergency medics are being turned away. In 2025, Emergency Medicine had 5,081 applicants for only 357 posts; around 14 applicants for one post.

GP surgery was a battle trench of digital misery today. Every person trying to fight the “book online” by coming in being turned away. Pharmacy similar - no order without NHS app. This all feels a bit brutal and Kafkaesque 😞

To fund the missing 7000 GPs £12 per person per year or £22 per taxpayer
@DrSteveTaylor We can bypass the government for doctors’ funding? How much would it cost each person in the UK? Anyone know?
