I've always strived to provide a voice to people who need it most — and now more than ever, we need all Canadians’ voices and aspirations to be reflected in the hard work of building a better future.
That’s why I’m running to be your Liberal candidate in Toronto Centre.
How it started vs. How it’s going
October 26th, 2020 I became the Member of Parliament for Toronto Centre.
October 26th, 2021 I became the Minister of Women and Gender Equality and Youth.
Truly an honour. 🙏🏽
I want Canadians to know this:
Silence is an answer. Absence is a message. True leadership is showing up, and standing up for vulnerable people.
We missed you at Pride Flag raising yesterday.
Your silence speaks volumes. Your message is loud and clear.
45 feminist organizations showed up today in Quebec to send a powerful message: a women’s right to choose is not up for debate. We couldn’t agree more.
This kind of abhorrent behaviour my friend
@cafreeland
and her team endured is disheartening to say the least.
A difference in political views should never mean this.
Minister — your composure and grace spoke volumes.
We stand with you.
11 months ago I was sworn in as MP for
#TorontoCentre
. Today—I was sworn in again—we just did It a little differently. Virtual or not—it’s the honour of my life to serve. 🙏🏽💕
Since starting
@TheSocialCTV
some people ask: “What happened to you? You used to be so nice when you read the news. You’re angry now. All you talk about is race.” I am kind. I am empathetic but I refuse to take for granted the microphone I’ve been given and will always speak up.
@alienmagicman
@jessieraeallen
So many people don't seem to know what racism ACTUALLY is. Ironically, these are the same people who want
@MarciIen
fired all the time for bringing up the "race card."
This is how the Conservative Party feels about your reproductive rights. For anyone wondering, this is what I was trying to say. Shouting me down won't stop me. I won't be intimidated. The message is the message.
It's Sexual Health week. Why is this so controversial?
Dear
@ESPNNBA
@NBAonTNT
& any other sports network that wants to pretend our
@Raptors
aren’t as good as they are—whether you choose to wake up or not—whether you continue to disrespect them or not—they’re the reigning
@NBA
champs and play like it. That’s how we roll in Canada.
Today I spoke in the house as the newly elected member for
#TorontoCentre
to thank the people of
#TorCen
for electing me to be their voice in Ottawa.
This truly is an honour. 🙏🏾
.
@ABDanielleSmith
wants to “depoliticize the issue”. The company she's kept tells a very different story. What world do conservatives want by targeting the vulnerable?
Young people have the right to be who they are. I stand with them, their Prime Minister stands with them. ⬇️
To every single queer and trans young person in Canada – you might not see the flag in your community, why adults are fighting, or why books in your school library are disappearing – but just know that this is your flag too.
Brian, that's incorrect. This is about the mental health of kids. Not parenting; not politics.
To be clear, I cite Canadian research, not American. This is a reality for kids in Canada.
Feel free to take a look:
The Trudeau Liberals are once again wading into an issue with fiery and divisive language rather than compassion and understanding.
Marci Ien doubling down that parents shouldn’t be told about gender changes at school is pure wedge politics.
This was us. Through the ups and downs of stupid o’clock call times and years of morning television we stood together and boy did we laugh. Congratulations
@bdthomson
on being named to The Order of Canada. So proud of you. ❤️
Despite protests across the country saying otherwise, let me be clear: Every child has the right to feel safe and seen. It’s a fundamental part of growing up.
This is about the safety and protection of all genders, all people, of all ages. Nothing more, nothing less.
I’m entering a new kind of public life because today’s challenges need all of our voices.
We need to support Canadians through COVID-19, and build the foundation for the future that our kids deserve — starting right here in Toronto Centre.
I hope I can count on your support!
The best shot to get, is the first one available.
A huge thank you to Jacklyn who administered my vaccine today. Grateful to everyone working the frontlines.

Everyone across all party lines can agree that conversion therapy practices have no place in Canada.
Today, All Members of the House of Commons came together unanimously to push Bill C-4 straight to the Senate to end conversion therapy in Canada once and for all.
Thank you, Jonathan. Here’s the thing—I’m tired of having to be strong. I have tried to reason with people, appeal to their humanity—go high when they go low—but I have learned there is only so much I can do and want to do.
These are my girls. One daughter. Three nieces. I want them to know that anything is possible. That no dream is too big. That they are more than capable. That the greatest lessons are learned through service.
Today, we honour the memory of the 14 women who were murdered and the 13 who were harmed, during the Polytechnique massacre 32 years ago. My heart goes out to all those who were affected by this senseless tragedy, and anyone who has been impacted by

What happened to Mahsa Amini while in Iranian custody was abhorrent. Our government has called for a full and transparent investigation into her death and urged Iran to end all forms of harassment and discrimination against women.
We are honoured to congratulate this year's recipient of the
#WIFTCrystal
Special Jury of Distinction award. Join us in a big round of virtual applause for Marci Ien, previous Co-Host on CTV's The Social and current liberal MP for Toronto Centre 👏
@MarciIen
Today, we announced Canada’s first ever Federal 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan. Which will work to continue to elevate 2SLGBTQ+ equality, protect 2SLGBTQ+ rights, and address longstanding discrimination against 2SLGBTQ+ communities.
Incredibly disappointed to see this,
@ABDanielleSmith
. These policies are dangerous and intentionally restrictive.
They deliberately endanger and isolate trans kids.
Young people should not be targeted by their governments, they should be protected.
Tougher Gun Laws — Safer Communities.
We stand with survivors, families, and communities who have been shattered by gun violence in this country.
We hear you, and we see you.
Our new legislation to strengthen gun control will help keep communities safe.
Tonight, the Conservative Party will try to advance their latest piece of abortion legislation. Our government's position remains: It is a woman's right to choose.
We'll stand firm in championing this fundamental right, every day of the week. ⬇️
We say "see you later" to our friend, our co-host and our sister
@MarciIen
on today’s show.
We are so proud of you and can't wait to see the incredible things you will do next. ❤️
Queer and Trans Canadians are tired of being scapegoated by politicians that are looking to score cheap political points. Real leadership is showing up to listen to a community that has had a 64% increase in hate crimes.
I’ve had the great privilege of connecting with Canadians as a broadcaster throughout my career. Now I’m hoping to connect in a new way, and I’ve taken leave from Bell Media as I begin this exciting new chapter.
JUST ANNOUNCED:
@AnneMarieAMK
,
@MarciIen
,
@mr1LOVETO
&
@LaineyGossip
will host CHANGE & ACTION: RACISM IN CANADA, a new special premiering Saturday, June 13 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on
@CTV
, featuring conversations with leaders across Canada advocating for change.
Laine—you have never pretended to be perfect. You have said for years that you have written things you aren’t proud of.
You could have removed past content
@LaineyGossip
knowing it would come back to haunt you but instead chose accountability. That takes courage. I love you.
Almost five years ago I brought you home in my purse. A friend of a friend had a dog who had puppies. Someone promised to take you and changed their mind. I held you and it was love at first sight. Best decision ever. Happy National Pet Day, Bella!🖤🤍
@AnnamiePaul
You are a true trailblazer, Annamie. Thank you for your leadership and grace. Others will walk through doors because you opened them. Wishing you all my best. 💕
Today I tested positive for
#COVID19
after experiencing some mild symptoms.
I’m isolating and will continue following all public health guidelines.
This virus is very real, and we can only move through it by doing our part to get vaccinated and boosted. 💜
I'm honoured to continue serving Canada as the Minister of Women and Gender Equality and Youth. 🙏🏽
My unwavering focus remains on empowering women in all their diversity, supporting queer & trans people to be their authentic selves, and securing a bright future for young people.
Congratulations CTV's
@MarciIen
for receiving tonight's honorary degree. From
@TheSocialCTV
to her philanthropic work in the community and beyond, Ien's dedication and drive are an inspiration to all. Welcome to the

family.

HUGE NEWS! 🚨 We are so excited to reveal the title and book cover of
@MarciIen
’s first book, “Off Script: Living Out Loud.” It comes out on October 27.
Congratulations, Marci. ❤️
“Take over our country”???
I’m Canadian. My children are Canadian. My parents are Canadian. They immigrated to Canada from Trinidad some 60 years ago. They have contributed to this country as have millions of others. Canada is better because of people like my parents.
For 30 years, I’ve heard the stories of Canadians who want a future where everyone has a fair chance at success. A future rooted in empathy and inclusion — without prejudice, racism, or discrimination.
It’s the Canada
@JustinTrudeau
is working to build, and the task is urgent.
Today history was made. We announced the first phase of the National Pharmacare Program, which will make contraceptives free for women right across Canada. This is what it looks like when we work together to deliver real change.
The pain and trauma caused by conversion therapy practices continue to have a lasting impact on LGBTQ2 communities across 🇨🇦. Today,
@DavidLametti
and I introduced legislation to protect the dignity and equality of LGBTQ2 people by criminalizing conversion therapy.
Today we celebrate Lincoln Alexander Day, on what would have been his 100th birthday.
On this day we celebrate all his historic firsts:
Canada’s first Black Member of Parliament, ✅
Cabinet minister, ✅
Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario.✅
For almost 30 years you’ve had my back. You’ve been the friend I could count on no matter what. Thank you for always being there.
I love you to the moon and back,
@dwightdrummond
.
Happy birthday!💕
Did you know that Canada has over 100,000 2SLGBTQI+ entrepreneurs who employ more than 435,000 workers & generate over $22 billion in economic activity?

My Dad is a natural teacher. His eyes light up when he’s sharing a story, a joke, a life lesson. He hasn’t been well—so the stories are fewer and far between—but just yesterday—out of the blue—he said: “Keep reaching. Don’t stop.”

ICYMI: Welcome back to Canada, President Biden! Standing up for gender equality is always good in my books! Thanks for the reminder to our friends across the way too. 😉 ☕️

You never do what you do for the accolades. You put people first. Humanity over everything. Congratulations, Masai on being named an Officer to the Order of Canada. 💕🙏🏽
Pride is not just a season – it’s who you are, 365 days a year, and recognizing the strength it takes to live authentically.
This Pride Season lets show Canada, and the world, how diversity and inclusivity make us stronger.
I didn’t sleep last night because of this. We can’t jog. We can’t walk down the street wearing a hoodie. We can’t hang out in our grandparent’s backyard. We can’t birdwatch.

Amy Cooper, a white woman who called the police on a black man, Christian Cooper, for asking her to leash her dog in Central Park, has been fired by her employer
Last night the Conservative Party voted against supporting the fight against gender-based violence. And this is how a Conservative MP treats women’s organizations when she doesn’t like what she hears. Showing you a peek of the CPC behind closed doors.
We won’t ever look away when hate is on our doorstep.
Today, we provided urgent funding to
@FCP_Canada
to support pride event organizers in tackling security costs, while ensuring the safety of Pride festivities.
We will always stand with the 2SLGBTQI+ community.
Growing up, watching my father throughout his 40 year career as an educator. I understand all the hard work that goes behind teaching the leaders of tomorrow and for that, I am so grateful.
Today, we thank you.

@TheSocialCTV
@MarciIen
@CTV
I think Marci's biggest hope for season 8 is to make the show entirely all about racism (with a side of white privilege thrown in there too).
So. Let me get this straight. First, Bloc leader
@yfblanchet
attacks Canada’s new Minister of Transport and now he’s doubling down on others??!!
@yfblanchet
are you saying
@Ginella_M
, a Black Muslim journalist should not be hosting a show on national television?
Please clarify.
