Some people want to erase knowledge because of feelings and it's infuriating. It's also dangerous. They're trying to hide reality. To what end?

TL;DR: She wants to retract papers she doesn't like for political reasons and she doesn't really have a scientific way to make her case. Her aim to pollute the scientific literature with politics is bad and should be sanctioned.

Thinking about a former student who attributed information to a real author and a real book, when the author never even mentioned that topic. Grading essays required playing detective, due to all the fraudulent citations. Google Books and keyword search made it easy to spot!

A South African friend (education insider) told me this week that the last properly trained teachers are retiring now. She said that the South African education system will be effectively defunct within the next 5 to 6 years. It's already exceptionally poor!

80% of SA grade 3 pupils can't read for meaning in any language, 2030 Reading Panel. To read for meaning key to individual prosperity, to vote consciously, in country where political opportunists, prey on those who don't read, can't read for meaning. https://t.co/qMp0qa1QCO

I worked at a school for students with autism and the kids asked me the most fascinating questions. "Why is the chair red? Do we all see same red? Where do bats live?" My own toddler just wants to know why fishfingers are called "fingers".

I was a little excited for the “why” phase of toddlerdom. I was expecting difficult questions, maybe teachable/ learnable moments. But what it really is: “is that a pineapple? No sweetheart, that’s a pear. “Why?”

@BeynonSammy It depends what your definition of "genocide" is. If it means killing every Afrikaner, it has not been completed yet. But if it means eliminating a people, a culture, a language, an identity, together with large-scale violence, torture and state-sponsored genocidal propaganda,

The number of Brits moving to Dubai now is staggering. There have always been plenty of Brits here, but they came because they like the weather. Now we're hearing about fears of civil war. People are scared and they're trying to get ahead of major unrest, by the sounds of it.

Just saw this footage of a handbag being stolen inside Savages Fine Food in PE. Here in Dubai, it's not unusual to leave phones, bags or even laptops on a table to show it's occupied. It's safe, because laws are actually enforced. Something to discuss at the next dialogue?

The Apartheid dragon was never slayed. It's only grown more heads since 1994. Fake posters and images, including photos of slavery in other countries, continue to be posted by propagandists. With AI in the mix, I fear that facts will become a rarity in the future.

Lets clarify. This is a satire poster made by an Anti-Apartheid group in England: -Point 1 and 6 are mostly correct and happened during Apartheid. -Points 5, 9, and 10 are gross exaggerations of what happened during Apartheid. Points 2,3,4,7,8, and 11 are completely made up

Apparently some people believe that the USA is now a dictatorship on par with North Korea. I guess the fact that people are dying to leave NK, and dying to get into the USA is irrelevant here.

Perhaps posted in jest, but it is true that in South Africa, one can pay professional mourners to attend funerals. This immediately made me think of the book by Zakes Mda on the topic, called Ways of Dying. https://t.co/LuZAGOzL1U And then I think about all the amazing stories

This lady is being very rational and reasonable. The UK cannot afford to continue along this path of handing out freebies to criminals. There is literally zero benefit to doing so and many disadvantages. Boggles the mind, really.
