With Malloy’s semantic model, we can visualize query results like dashboards, tables, and charts with built in interactions shared across common dimensions and measures. A preview of these new @MalloyDev features 🧵

I'm thrilled to be hosting @LloydTabb, founder of Looker, for a fireside chat on Monday evening, June 10th at Stable Cafe in SF. Lloyd is now joining Meta as he pursues his latest creation: a "better SQL" called @MalloyDev. "Many attempts at building a better SQL have failed...

4 months ago I joined the Malloy team to work on an interesting data challenge: how to visualize complex, deeply nested data structures in a consumable way. Here is where we are at today, and where we are going 🧵

There are a couple of "must-watch" approaches to BI that will reshape how we think about data. Both take exception to the idea that the multi-dimensionality of analytics (and business and life) is...

New Malloy blog post is out! If you're a BigQuery admin, we've built a drop-in data model for analyzing your BigQuery usage, and it can all be done directly in your browser. Check it out here:

I spent a few hours learning Malloy with a large set of data that I frequently query with SQL. I can honestly say I now ask and answer 10x as many questions that would have been too annoying to do via SQL. Of all of the SQL enhancements/replacements, I feel like this one could
Is Malloy 10x? "If you can make something 10x more efficient, you have a winner." Malloy is an open source semantic data modeling and query language that runs against SQL databases. Malloy intends to replace SQL for asking questions of data.

There is a lot of talk about making "Semantic Data Models", but very little talk about how to query these models. If you work with data, I think you will enjoy this primer about how to ask interesting questions in Malloy from a prebuilt semantic data model https://t.co/NKsjJNoTr4

YAML is a terrible choice for a Semantic Layer implementation. In this post, I explain why, and talk about why the Malloy team is building the Semantic Layer on top of a full-fledged programming language: https://t.co/CLmmVYG1DB

Malloy lets you compose with queries with views of data. The query below creates a dashboard. Having a great great IDE support lets you understand how it works. See the results in the thread.

Carlin hides the lede :). Malloy's Python integration now supports Jupyter Notebooks! Try the demo in Google Colab.
Trustworthy metrics should be available to anyone who uses data. Semantic data models have made a huge impact on BI and analytics, but not so much in machine learning and advanced data science. This is why we're bringing Malloy to Jupyter notebooks:

The Malloy Language is taking a major step forward: we're removing the label of "experimental", and releasing Malloy 4.0 -- so named because it's the fourth major renovation of the language. Read all about it here:

I love when people I don't know write about Malloy. They always see it differently. Kala does an excellent job of describing why Malloy is so important when dealing with a network of data. This is a really good read. https://t.co/XAgmat4n2s
