Every woman you know has taken a longer route. Has doubled back on herself. Has pretended to dawdle by a shop window. Has held her keys in her hand. Has made a fake phone call. Has rounded a corner and run. Every woman you know has walked home scared. Every woman you know.

@MalaakSafa Yep this is a sad reality too many men don’t get it. We need to step up and not turn a blind eye to our bros when they say and do sexist things. Strong men hold other men accountable!

@MalaakSafa Sadly true, but it remains the same as we age. Having worked at a rape crisis center in my 20’s, my oldest victim was 88. Women are taught to stay and remain alert wherever they are all their lives.

@MalaakSafa I’m 68 & still doing it. It’s something u learn as a young woman. To look around & see who’s near you. To always park under a light if possible. To walk to your car in a group if u can. To check there’s no one behind the bushes. We all live that way.

@MalaakSafa Looked around the parking lot for lurkers, checked the back seat before getting in, parking under the street lights, refusing to give a lift to a stranger…

@MalaakSafa Last night, while the dog did his last pee walk, a man on the other side of the street stopped & stood watching me, spooked me, so feeling panic I knocked on neighbours door. He continued to stand & watch till the door opened & then continued on his way. Why would he do that?

@MalaakSafa Yep. Also how we have to make decisions on where to live. (No main floor apartments, security) or making sure you let all your friends know your home after a night out. I let my family know I’m in an Uber or a cab and my plans. It’s a ton of mini decisions to make.

@MalaakSafa I ran a youth shelter, I would attend court often with the kids, the officer in charge of diversion asked me how many had been sexually assaulted in their lives. My answer was all of them . The truth.

@MalaakSafa I talked with a male neighbor the other day about an incident in our street, and how it made me feel extra uncomfortable because I live alone (with a kid). He shrugged and said "eh, I live alone too" implying HE wasn't afraid. They don't get it.

@MalaakSafa This so true . I’m 61 and still do this . I will shortly be going on holiday with a female friend. The flight back lands at 10.30 pm . We could take a train back to our hometown , a 2 hr journey, £25 pp. instead , it’s a taxi £150. A man would just take the train.

@MalaakSafa men are fully aware of the physical differential re: capacity for violence. those of us w some situational awareness are usually assessing it around other men, and wild animals too. this is all part of being human. but i recommend speaking up on behalf of Daniel Penney and
