Great to see @USGSA Acting Administrator @USGSAStephenE kicking off the Federal mDL Day - and touting the impact mDLs can have on improving ID proofing for government services and banking…and highlighting GSA’s participation in the @NIST mDL project at the NCCoE!

As we noted in our January letter to the White House, N Korea compromised digital IDs to steal over $2B to fund its nuclear program targeting banks and crypto exchanges, and spoofed IDs to place N Koreans in remote IT jobs to generate funds to fuel its weapons of mass destruction.

"North Koreans didn’t merely create fake IDs to insinuate themselves into Western tech firms. they allegedly stole the identities of “more than 80 US persons” to impersonate them in jobs at more than 100 US companies and funnel money to the Kim regime.".

Our statement on the Trump administration's decision to repeal the digital identity section of January's cybersecurity executive order earlier today. We look forward to finding new ways to work with the Trump administration to protect Americans from identity theft and fraud.

We appreciate the efforts of both @MikeCrapo and @SenatorTimScott who asked @USGAO to look into these issues - and suggest ways for SSA to improve the eCBSV program. Last year's GAO report provided the blueprint for what SSA announced today.

eCBSV is one of the most promising government initiatives to stop identity theft and fraud and improve financial inclusion - but the program, to date, has fallen short of expectations due to a mix of high costs and lack of granularity about the results. These changes will help!.

We are thrilled to see @SocialSecurity embrace our recommendations for improving the eCBSV program!.Synthetic identity fraud costs Americans more than $20 billion a year (per the @federalreserve) - these changes will help banks more effectively stop it.
