A thread: I have only read this article and NOT the book from which it derives, but as the author of the standard biography of Anthony Blunt, I feel inclined to comment. The main contention is that not only was Blunt spying for the Soviets, but that he was/
Well, well, well. So it was Anthony Blunt who is likely to have been the spy who foiled Operation Market Garden, led to 17,000 Allied deaths and left Berlin & Eastern Germany to fall to Russia. Can we have no more romanticising of the Cambridge spies pls? https://t.co/TsfOqq2A2B

Gives me no pleasure to say that #KingAndConqueror is a dreadful disappointment. 2025 cgi equivalent of shonky cardboard sets, desperate lack of extras, but most of all shockingly bad script & unforgivably boring.

Almost 200 years ago, George Cruikshank published this savage print of the Royal Family. It features the recently disgraced Duke of York, and the strained relationship between the Prince of Wales and his brother the Duke of Sussex. Almost unimaginable today, isn't it?

I’m sure someone will explain why it’s SO awful that London property prices are falling & all the foreign billionaires are off, poor darlings, but it seems to me it’s about time prices got more affordable for the young who actually live & work here

Just putting this out there one more time. What Happens When a Bad-Tempered, Distractible Doofus Runs an Empire? (Hint: it’s about Trump)

Donald Trump is reminiscent of Kaiser Wilhelm II, during whose reign the upper echelons of the German government began to unravel into a free-for-all.

I know I’m being pretty controversial here, and millions —well maybe one of you—will no doubt take tremendous issue with me, but I reckon that Carcavelos is completely delicious and much nicer than Port—and it’s dying out…

With just a week to go before the publication of #TheBlackbirdsofStGiles I wrote a piece for @HistoriaHWA explaining why the main setting of the sweeping Georgian adventure by me and @Marciathewriter became such a desperate and fearsome slum: @simonschusterUK
@KateAGriffin writes about discovering the history of the St Giles rookery, London's most notorious slum and the backdrop to her and @Marciathewriter's new book. She examines why the area was left in a state of shocking poverty for two centuries. See more: https://t.co/0D3yj89myt

Anyone seen Better Man the Robbie Williams biopic, and Kneecap -the semi-true origin story of eponymous Belfast rap group? I thought Kneecap was one of the best films I saw this year—brilliantly subverted all pop biopic cliches—funny, fresh, no self pity.
