The author-picture accompanying the Sunday Times' review of Jerzy Kosinski's 'The Devil Tree' (24/6/1973) might have made a . stronger and more meaningful impression if they had managed a better approximation of the spelling of his name.

I'm impressed: it takes some doing to mention a @TheBookerPrizes-shortlisted title and get both the author's first π‘Žπ‘›π‘‘ last name wrong.

RT @miserabiliter: Trying to get hold a copy of every Latin text by Petrarch. Fun project, still a long way to go.

Recently released @UNESCO report on 'The African Book Industry' [pdf] is a great overview, packed with information. Comes with this acknowledgement; great that it got this support, but I suspect we're not going to see much more of this going forward.

Also: I'm behind on my Antoine Volodine-coverage, but it's always good to see ARC of another of his "Post-Exotic Novels" β€” 'The Inner Harbour' (@UMinnPress; 10/2025)

In the mail: very nice end to the week, with a quintet of @McNallyEditions ARCs. Quite the impressive variety, too.

Day made, however, with the lone in-the-mail arrival, the long overdue re-issue of Gregory Rabassa's translation of Manuel Mujica Lainez's 'Bomarzo', coming from @nyrbclassics

Small haul from the annual local-library sale this year. Always good to find another π‘‘π‘’π‘Ÿ Simenon, and while I have some doubts about the Vadim that's not something I could pass up. And the Coleridge includes the plays, seems like a solid one-volume collection.

Did you know anyone can be nominated for a Nobel Prize?. Hundreds or thousands of nominations are received for the Nobel Prize every year from members of academies, university professors, scientists, previous Nobel Prize laureates, members of parliamentary assemblies and more.

Sometimes going through all the old reviews for quotes is a chore, but it was fun returning to all the outrage about this one.
