I didn’t know anything about electric self-driving cars, so thought Elon was a genius. Likewise, I didn’t know squat about reusable rockets, so thought Elon was a genius. I know about software, and this man is a moron.

That balloon, the one China sent for “intelligence gathering” over the US. It didn’t find any, which is why it’s floating around out there going 🤷🏻♂️

Well, a connection I didn’t think of*, but 🤣 https://t.co/F4DBNa8mAy *guess I should have though - the crown owns lots of property in the UK

Crown Estate, a property portfolio belonging to the King of England, is suing Twitter for unpaid rent on its UK headquarters in central London, reports BBC. The Crown Estate took…

I’ll help whomever I can during this period - intros, network, even if just venting over drinks. This is certainly a watershed moment, but not the end for any not many - tech is too engrained and will still grow, but it’s not the guarantee job for life at BigCo that it was 😢

In any case this is a historic moment for tech - many (myself included) thought it was really stable and as long as performing well jobs were secure - I’ve seen too many excellent people announce their layoff to believe that, and in some ways it appears random. Bubble has popped

This is a really shitty way of doing layoffs, but not sure if informing everyone all at once or doing it more personally and everyone waiting to see if/where the axe will fall is any better.
We'll look back at this week as an inflection point when Big Tech lost its former attractiveness. It will be stories like Justin's, and the countless ones to be told, where many realize that, during layoffs, people become numbers, and 8% of those numbers need to be "marked."

Please don’t get any AI to write comments like this - they are worse than useless. Some of the other ideas in this thread are good (especially writing template/startup code), some are “meh”, and others (like generating regex) GPT get very wrong, so don’t give it too much trust
4/ Comment code We can extend the point 3 above by adding line by line comments to that code base we didn't build. But we can also make our own code properly commented before shipping, by asking ChatGPT to add comments. No more uncommented code in PRs.

Anyway, I won’t ever be using LinkedIn for my political beliefs, nor for my usual shitposting - that is solely reserved for here 🙂

Politics is a bad topic for lots of people, but that needn’t be so - politics, and politicking, can do good for either/both sides of the political spectrum, if honorable people debate in good faith. However, I’m sad to think there are few of those people in politics any more.

If one wants a better picture try this one of the UK commons. See the red lines on the floor - they can’t be crossed during debate. They are 13ft apart, which tradition (or myth) is because it’s more than twice the length of two swords so opposing parties couldn’t stab each other

What members of congress are supposed to be doing is finding ways to help the country, which will inevitably mean compromise, finding common ground, and most importantly acting in good faith - things that are distinctly lacking today.

Someone posted this image in LinkedIn, which I detest seeing political commentary there, but moreso shows a complete misunderstanding on how politics should work.

Sigh, here we go. If there were any more evidence republicans want to fuck up america here’s another one. They don’t want money coming into the treasury *that it’s owed* by tax cheats and their GOP sponsors. It’s not “going after average Americans”, it’s having a functioning IRS

And everyone says correlation does not imply causation ;)
The results are in from my straw poll of the most accomplished people I know ... ... the vast majority worked a ton, drank booze and ate poorly while on the rise. So ... if you want to get ahead, skip the gym, grab a beer and take out, and get back to work ..

I’ve got to say I’m kinda surprised that this hasn’t happened - testament to both the original engineering team, and those that remained. Sites with this much complexity and traffic are often teetering on a knife edge. I think a saving grade is not pushing many changes
What's the probability that Twitter will have an unprecedented outage by modern Twitter standards (1 day or longer, where >= 50% of U.S. users or >= 25% of global users find Twitter to be unusable) by 2024-01-01?

Elon Musk's team is seeking new investors for Twitter, offering the same $54.20-a-share deal and trying to close by the end of the year. Scoop w/ @ReedAlbergotti
