The term boarding school would have people believe the parents of the Native children stolen from their families actually sent them there to have their culture violently ripped from them.

Why are we still referring to these as “boarding schools”? These were death camps, concentration camps, torture camps. Landmarks of genocide. Language is important. Branding these as “schools” is violent.

Indigenous folks in Oregon and Washington, I am working on a story about ICE raids. Have there been any Indigenous folks in OR/WA that have been detained by ICE or involved in raids that would be willing to speak with me? Please message me or email me at lunar@underscore.news

Unsheltered homelessness increased 27% between 2022 and 2024. The only reason there are less encampments is because the city has spent more than $50 million on systematically destroying and throwing away people's tents and impounding their vehicles with 3,000+ sweeps.

I’ve been meaning to do a follow up story on what’s happening with the Pike Place totem poles. Since my reporting there have been a few other stories from local non Native reporters and each of them reek of bias and read like opinion pieces. 🚮

The @CascadePBSNews mission is “to inform and inspire the community to make the world a better place.” That starts with your employees. Maybe pay them a living wage so that they can continue to do work that is needed.
Journalists at @CascadePBSNews (formerly Crosscut) are picketing on their lunch break to protest management’s contract offer. They say the company is failing to offer a living wage while paying the CEO 7 times more than the average employee. @CascadePBSUnion

Now on the other side election day, plz renew focus to the ways "blue" cities/counties' "progressive" governments are moving in tandem with the outloud fascists There is an encroaching budget decision that gives upwards of half a Billion to SPD & guts services. And this next up:
oh and a new police chief i guess—so public safety committee adjacent stuff to watch for includes: 2024: crowd control & "less lethal" weapons policy + a new police chief 2025: "the health of the criminal justice system" (Kettle's wording) and likely World Cup related police bs
