Bloody hell I’ve opened a hornets nest over whether NHS staff should have to pay for parking. Yes public transport is greener & I concede other people pay outside of the NHS but until public transport is better, charging £1000 pa to park in workplace carpark can’t be right
@Lucy_cat_lady
That’s quite a lot. Don’t think I pay that much! (As I say- we have to pay as it’s a private car park). Think it’s cheaper than that though for us.

Last time I took a kid to the JR (complex fracture couldn't walk properly) I sailed round the carpark for 1 and a half hours looking for a space. I had left that long to park as I know how bad it was but we were still 5 mins late for appt.NHS parking leads to missed medical appts

The last NHS trust I worked for had permits (but that always cost under £50)Which trust charges staff a grand? Let's all boycott them as an employer. Happy to write to them & say I won't be applying as a job there as a consequence. Permit charge is reasonable but 1000?? Disgrace.

@RichardBentall
Public transport is also geared towards 9 - 5 jobs
And hospitals are often not central
The first bus to my local A&E is at 7:18am which takes 2 hours
The last bus back is at 5:38pm which also takes 2 hours
It's 30 minutes by car
@Lucy_cat_lady
Also where do all the car park fees go?
Betting they do not go to anything that reduces carbon footprint.
If it was a move to lower carbon footprint, they would give free parking to EV’s
@Lucy_cat_lady
Exactly. Hard-pressed nurses should not have to pay hospital parking charges. Any more than factory workers who don't pay to park at work.
@Lucy_cat_lady
Often,hospitals are not on bus routes and would involve two or three buses. Also outwith shift times. Not appealing before or after 22 hour shift.
@Lucy_cat_lady
Note: No charges for hospital parking in Wales; and we get free prescriptions too. About time the people of England demanded their own regional govt so they can have nice things too.
