my crazy radical view is we should abolish the voting age altogether (we've learned that restricting voting based on identity features is always bad) but I'll take any form of progress we can get!.

I've been banging this drum since I wrote a Washington Post op-ed about it in 2016, and it's still true: lowering the voting age is a moral necessity and a true civic good. When young people get a say in their own futures, it spurs a virtuous cycle.

Alistair is one of the most thoughtful people I've met. That he would be detained, humiliated, and deported by my government is an embarrassment to us all. You don't have to agree with him (which I do) or be a free speech absolutist (which I am) to think this wrong and cruel.
