The most realistic thing about the portrayal of Doctor Who fans in Lux is that theyβre not real. Like, same

This is why @gallycab and other queer spaces are so important. They offer something rare β somewhere people can be themselves and feel safe in community. Even if the outside world doesn't reflect that tolerance, as I was starkly reminded of tonight.

I had to question calling what happened to me a hate crime, because I thought, is it 'serious' enough? Does it deserve that weight? But we have to be clear: intimidation, even when played off as some lad banter, is still a hate crime and should not be normalised.

Just a reminder that so many people, simply by existing visibly as queer, are still made to feel unsafe, even if it's through nonviolent or non physical means.

But why should I be the one feeling shame for their actions? They think it's just a bit of 'banter'. What it is, is harassment. Intimidation. Dehumanising.

Leaving the train, I was angry with myself. Instead of freezing, I didn't stop them filming or move away. Having to tell myself afterwards: it's about safety in the moment, rather than engaging with, and possibly provoking. Still the reality in 2025.

To the three 'men' who gawked + made comments on the platform. The one who sat next to me on the train, blocking me in whilst his friends laughed + joked across the carriage, playing voicenotes about me right next to me. One filming me, the others laughing. You are f*cking scum.

Leaving a gorgeous, JOYFUL warm hug of a night at a queer cabaret this evening - full of love and support where people are safe, seen, and celebrated, to then get hate crimed on the train home was not the end to the night I expected :/
