A teenage girl has been killed after an e-scooter and a van were involved in a collision in east London.

Emergency services were called just after 1.30pm today (Monday, March 21) to a road traffic collision on Green Street, Newham, east London. The rider of the e-scooter, a girl believed to be aged 14, was treated at the scene but died from her injuries. [Photo: @GettyImages ]

@GettyImages Her next-of-kin have been informed and an investigation is underway. The driver of the van is with police and has not been arrested.

@GettyImages @metpoliceuk A @Ldn_Ambulance spokesperson said an ambulance crew and hazardous area response team were dispatched, as well as the air ambulance. "The first paramedic arrived in less than five minutes," they said. "We treated a teenager at the scene and took them to hospital as a priority."

@LondonWorldCom Terribly sad but not a surprise. The only surprise is that more kids haven't been killed. These things are a menace. I routinely see *kids* whizzing the wrong way up 1 way streets, through red lights, on pavements. No safety gear or knowledge of highway code. Death traps.
