@profsarahj Risks of an outbreak with Delta apparently high enough to require slashing international arrivals/ suppressing some pretty important rights, but not high enough to justify a different approach to AZ risks. Value judgments informing that position pretty revealing.

1/ The clot risk is very low, so I don’t see that it’s terrible for people under 60 to get it if they’re informed. Many just want to get vaccinated & AZ has undoubtedly saved young lives all over the world. Let’s not infantilise people.

2/ “Informed” probably does require a conversation with a GP (doesn’t have to be your own GP for the many who don’t have one) who are now indemnified (but it seems they already were?) There are many medical risks even for OTC things.

3/ either way it seems that the vax rollout just got messier and muddier rather than the opposite, with Qld declaring war in the PM. Qld has been pretty anti AZ tbh (AP got Pfizer, Dr Young got vax late). But it also seems ScoMo has done his old Announcement trick again

4/ not sure how other states feel about PM’s announcement. It seems only Qld thus far has seriously armed up about it (true?), which would again reflect its authorities being most consistently anti AZ.

@LizHcks @realCarrickRyan @profsarahj Universal use of AZ will lead to a few deaths in young people. Should they be sacrificed to bring people who have opted to move overseas to come home quicker?

@LizHcks @profsarahj We had more Delta coming in around May, we didn't threaten lower intakes then. We have to get over this fear and join the rest of the world before its too late. The mining outbreak was because we put a healthy person into hotel quarantine for no reason in Brisbane

@LizHcks @realCarrickRyan @profsarahj I think the problem is, is that it is being played out on social media. Why weren't national medical bodies & states not consulted & part of the decision making process? What else do you expect but chaos & uncertainty when something so important is announced in the media first?
