Some of those returning have been vaccinated.
We should be moving to expand capacity by allowing home quarantine for vaccinated from low- to medium-risk countries.
As many parts of the world are moving to restore freedoms, 🇦🇺 is moving backward.
There are few, if any, legal protections of repatriation rights in Australia, which is why governments (state and Federal) have been able to operate in the vacuum of accountability that a crisis can produce.

Refusal to move away from a one-size-fits-all approach to quarantine makes neither public health sense, nor respective of rights.
@LizHcks
It doesn’t matter how many people entering Australia are vaccinated, not enough of us here are. Every single person setting foot on Australian soil could be fully vaccinated and it wouldn’t mean a thing until we are at herd immunity.
@ajmckenna
A number of qualified epidemiologists (Dore, Catherine Bennett, even Mike Toole) have backed home quarantine as a viable option for low- to medium-risk vaccinated arrivals.
A refusal to accept any risk at all is not proportionate.

Good idea, not yet. Even if you are vaccinated, still can catch and transmit the virus to others. People cannot be trusted to stay at home, see Aspen group example. Stupidity. We cannot do home quarantine until ~80% of Aussies people are vaccinated.

It’s appalling. Qld is calling for the same thing - hope they also stop the Hollywood film industry as well. Ha! Easier to stop citizens & families coming in
@LizHcks
It's very very disappointing that there is a complete vacuum of leadership in this issue from either major political party. We are completely rudderless at the moment. It's going to be a long year.
@LizHcks
It’s so easy to blame “travellers” - why don’t they get the system right instead? I’m fully vaxxed but took 7 cancelled flights, 4 mths and $10k to get back to hug my terminally ill mum one last time. And
@DanielAndrewsMP
wants to make it harder for

? UnAustralian
@LizHcks
Reckon Dan's got this wrong. Agree I'd rather not have any more lockdowns, but we can't be closed forever. Ankle bracelet home quarantine seems like an appropriate balance.
@LizHcks
I'm sorry to say this, but as an Australian overseas, I've come to realise I'm a convenient punching-bag for cheap political points. It's a pretty worthless passport (unless you're a billionaire of course...)
@LizHcks
@Taraustralis
Vaccinating returnees overseas, so quarantine system is full of the vaccinated will vastly reduce leak risk. Also faster than trying to hit 80% of the general population.
@LizHcks
Yes that will go so well. Vaccinated people can still transmit the virus and we only need one person to do the wrong thing and look what happens. Besides the people travelling are largely not stranded Australians, they’re people travelling and living their best lives
