Pt 3-What parents do to control their kids. It would have been better not to lie and repress the lead but to have given her real tools to control herself or access a power stronger than the darkness. Why does feminine power have to be something dark?
Pt 2-An intense opening. I liked that black crown, too bad that it wasn’t used more. I liked the music but not the discordant sounds that overpower several scenes. They were unnecessarily abrasive. “Magic comes from the fear of death.” Interesting idea.
Hellbender (2021). Pt 1-Interesting ideas and themes but it didn’t hit as hard as it could have. The ending felt anticlimactic -- a kind of non-ending. A moody, atmospheric exploration of coming to terms with who you are and finding your power. Which isn’t a good thing here.
Pt 5-Many if not all of the choices the lead makes baffle me. She’s also a hard character to get to know. Nothing about this pilot draws me in. Instead, it keeps me at a distance and shows me how dark the series will likely be. I’m out.
Pt 4-She seems to enjoy doing things most of us wouldn’t such as killing that cat or using a razor to sharpen a pencil instead of a pencil sharpener. She seems to have an undercurrent of some darkness there. I dislike the serial killer. I question whether the sex is consensual.
Pt 3-I don’t like the implied comparison between Asperger’s and how a serial killer thinks. Oof. The lead is also exhibiting behaviors I’m not sure are consistent with Asperger’s.
Pt 2-There is a long scene of a cat that has been run over by a car and is in pain and crying out. The lead takes a while to think about what to do and ultimately decides to kill it. Oof. If that’s a trigger, skip the scene or the series.
Pt 2- Of course the terrible toothpaste would prove essential! Lol. Everything flowed; it kept my attention and didn’t send me spiraling into a dark rabbit hole. 😀Creepy ending that was perfect for tonality. The title fits perfectly with the tone as well.
Sorry About the Demon (2023). Pt 1-I thought this would be cheesy, but it was actually a lot of fun. Funny and spooky and exactly the kind of good, light horror movie I needed today, to be honest. Good premise and characters. Good set. Bit of a crazy final act. Great demon voice.
Pt 4-At first the ominous music that overpowers many scenes seems too heavy-handed but with that ending, it fits. This movie really got to me. I’m shook! Child abuse and child death triggers.
Pt 3-I was uncomfortable for most of the movie and screaming at the characters to make smarter choices. It’s a slow burn with a very cruel and dark ending. The twist -- while I saw it coming a mile off -- was truly horrifying! I knew what it was and I still wasn’t prepared.
