I lost my mother in law last week. She was 96 and one of my best friends. A lifelong lover of books, she kept track of all she read on index cards and recorded her opinion in code. This is the key to her code and the cards we found among her belongings.

I've been sharing this amazing picture on Zoom class visits — kids remote learning during a polio outbreak in the 1940s. Schools shut and teachers read lessons on the RADIO. We're facing such challenges today, but as I tell kids, we've faced them in the past and gotten through.

Today's my daughter's 16th bday. School's shut, 2 friends quarantined, we're hunkered. She gamely canceled plans but we surprised her with a "joyride." 8 pals stood outside their homes with signs, blew kisses. Her grandparents sang from their doorway. Val said it the best bday.

My grandmother used to tell me about the polio epidemics when she was a kid; schools & shops closed, her mom kept her inside. I think it's important for our kids to know that what they're going through today happened before. One day they'll tell their story to their grandkids.

My husband came into my office with today's UPS delivery — my author copies of I Survived the Black Death. Even after 24 books, seeing a brand new one in the "flesh" is a thrill! Out in the world 10/15. Can't wait to share this one with your readers.

I’ve told my 15 -year-old daughter that she’s now part of history, that she should record her experiences & feelings. Years from now, people will need such stories to to learn from us. I always tell kids that this is what history is made of, our own stories. Thanks david!.

I've been working on I Survived #21 for months & was supposed to turn it in TODAY. But my story wasn't working; I couldn't feel my character's heart. I had to tell my editor I'm starting all over. I'm so lucky to write this series. I♥️my readers. But each book is a big challenge.

The Great Boston Molasses Flood happened 100 years ago TODAY. 21 people died when a 2-million gallon tank molasses exploded & and sent 25-foot wave of molasses through Boston's North End. I wrote about this in Storyworks, and am excited to announce it will be my next I Survived.

My next I Survived is a survival story and wildlife mystery in one, focused on an event that happened in 1967 in Glacier National Park. In the end, it shows why we must respect the wild and incredible creatures like grizzlies.

Working nonstop on I Survived 22, about the Wellington Avalanche of 1910, a train disaster & deadliest avalanche in US. Like all of the topics in my books, this changed history; train travel became safer as a result. Fascinating research journey. Can't wait to share with readers!

My friend Eva is 97, as a girl barely escaped Hitler’s Germany, lost many in Holocaust. Fled to China where she spent 10 yrs in Shanghai, in a Jewish ghetto of 30,000. Was a refugee for years, from Bolivia to Brazil and finally US. She is an optimist, so resilient, a role model.
