Pointed museum question: "How can we build a different kind of art world, one in which our lives and livelihoods are not dependent on millionaire directors and billionaire donors?"

1/ Note that Gagosian opines on topic in today's Bloomberg interview: “They are in the business of selling tickets and attendance,” he said. “I can sell a painting on the telephone if I am lucky. Museums are participatory venues. That means you have crowds....
"Online exhibitions" need to be more than a web site. Even a web site with really cool design.
Going to a show is an event, it's an *outing*. You don't want merely to look at some stuff, you want to be shown it. You want, consciously or not, to see some curatorial decisions.

It’s as if some people just woke up and discovered something called ‘art patronage,’ which has been around for a few hundred years. If folks don’t want the private sector funding museums, then the public sector must step up, but the pandemic is wiping out local and state budgets.
@KnightLAT
Don’t hire millionaire directors who are dependent upon billionaire donors and board members - especially when the museum is operating as a public trust.

@KnightLAT
Stop giving $120,000,000 in public funds to tear down LACMA. Use the desperately needed County funds for social housing. In fact mid-Wilshire LACMA location with the Purple Line addition is perfect for our poors to be housed.
@KnightLAT
New channels for direct community support of artists and art workers are a good place to start. Networks forged by mutual aid campaigns like NYC's Cinema Workers Solidarity Fund, Seattle's Artist Relief Fund, and the LA Art Workers Relief Fund are the roots of new labor advocacy.
