@KingsGenerals Byzantium in eu4. You start as pretty much a rump state, but if you play your cards right you can: -Expel the Turks from anatolia -Conquer Italy -Destroy Catholicism and implement Orthodox Christianity as the main branch of the religion, thus healing the schism

@KingsGenerals Forming Rome as Italy or Byzantium as Greece in HoI4 can be really fun. (Especially Italy because you don't have to deal with the AI fucking you over or being annoying to fight, joining the Axis/GEACPS, etc.)

@KingsGenerals Medieval 2 Total War. The Byzantines can be a very, very powerful faction, but will crumble if you have a couple of bad turns, particularly in the beginning. I really enjoyed that aspect
