When a movement decides that compassion is an impediment to their goals, it is time to end the movement, because it can only do evil from that moment onward.

Motives matter. You can sometimes get away with doing the right thing for the wrong reason, but bad motives tend to bleed through in ways large and small. Bring your motives up to snuff. All it requires is wanting to do things for the right reason even if it's not convenient.

@natlawyerchic @niacerise I've been Catholic. I'm not particularly religious now. The only expression of religious faith I pay any attention to is how well people take care of their fellow man; nothing else even matters. Big showy displays like this -- which Jesus denounced BTW -- are 100% about ego.

@AOC Oh. My. God. How the hell did you graduate with a degree in economics? You've described capitalism at its worst and most laissez-faire, but that is by no means the whole of capitalism. I suspect you know that, though; you just feel no obligation to be honest with your fans.

@YNB I feel like the concept of "civility" - where you are expected to feel the same about all people, good or evil - was created by evil people to exploit good people's reluctance to be cruel. If McConnell wanted me to extend my sympathy, he shouldn't have devoted his life to evil.

@Mike_InIllinois I never paid much attention to Taylor Swift for a long time, and I think that was a mistake. Not only does she have a moral compass, she's sharp as hell. Back when everyone was falling for crypto, she was asking all the smart questions that nobody else was bothering to.

@Maladroithe I think she gets it. The problem with so much religion is that the humanity has been stripped completely away; I don't think the original intent behind Christianity was to divorce itself from human kindness and human concerns, but that's where we've ended up.

@BriannaWu At the risk of repeating myself, I have never seen a movement as reliably dishonest as the pro-Palestinian movement. I have yet to see them admit to an uncomfortable reality. On 10/8 they were celebrating the rapes, then they denied the rapes as soon as they proved damning.

@ursine_meeting The word docga existed in Old English (and is of unknown origins), but was more like "cur" in terms of being a dog of low standing and also an insult to people. So the word wasn't invented in the 13th century (Middle English period), but it overshadowed hound for unclear reasons.

He's not wrong that the prose in "Lolita" is really solid, but a lot of what makes it interesting is seeing Humbert Humbert try to sell himself as a sympathetic figure, while being anything but. @ravenscimaven Nahh. It was a good song and everyone liked it; but 1977 was such a strong year for music, this was just an average good song and not a standout hit. In fact it was the #53 single of the year; #52 was Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop". The 70s really were a magical decade for music.

@MAKINGhisSTORY @WashProbs Yeah. You see two people arguing on the street, maybe you don't know what's going on and you stay out of it. But when one of them is screaming racial slurs, you kind of know all you need to know.

@LittleMammith It's like they don't get that, if they take provocative stances, people are allowed to not like them.

I like this article I just stumbled across. I feel like it sums up a lot.

@MalcolmNance I have coined a new axiom: as soon as a movement decides compassion is a hindrance to their goals, it's time to end the movement, because it will be capable of nothing but evil. The "pro-Palestinian" movement crossed this line around 10/7 when they took to cheering atrocities.

@octopuscaveman It's for the best; if comics have taught me anything, crooks are always robbing people at galas, but maybe they'll stay away if they see Spider-Man. In fact, we can test it: DID a bunch of crooks bust in and commit a robbery? All right then.

@darryn_briggs And let's be clear, there was no accident on that flyer. They have some number of racists in their ranks who were so mad at Torres that they stopped hiding the racism, and the rest of the DSA were too cowardly to call their own out on the racism. They really are the worst.

@Brave_Bold_2000 @hiddenhush And it's not even plausible that he could remain a man child. He's seen far too much, nearly died far too many times to be thinking like a nervous 15-year-old. Some growth, or change in some direction or other, feels almost inevitable.

@notcapnamerica What I'd like to know is the trail of investigation that led to the charges. I'm guessing it all stems from the work the DOJ has been doing to investigate Jan 6, almost as if Garland has known what he was doing all this time.

@StaceyCKs1 I thought it was Harris's bus, but either way, they should rot and so should this guy.

@mikejackstraw @AuroraLuminous @RJDeal @BevsKid1 @docrocktex26 @marcushjohnson @PortiaMcGonagal @myronjclifton If we're talking about the old end of GenX, when they were in high school, Ronald Reagan was starting his presidency. I think they imprinted on him. I say this as an older GenX, whose classmates LOVED Reagan and couldn't / wouldn't see that he was encouraging self-centeredness.
