THE ART OF ICARUS
A thread of all the pieces mentioned within the text:
In this book, Icarus's father is an art restorer and most of the pieces they steal from Mr. Black are pieces that can be purchased by the public if you are very very very very rich lmao
Man who falls in love with a sphynx and solves her riddles daily, in spite of the threat to his life.
The boon he requests every night is to sleep by her side in the warm sand and wake up safe. As he grows old, then forgetful, she reconfigures her riddles to accept any answer.
Separately, as I'm sure you want my opinion on this:
Yue's wig in Netfilx's adaption is a hard top, synthetic blend, like a more expensive version of the kind of hat-like wigs made for Disney Theme Park Princesses.
M. Night Shyamalan's Yue is in a full human hair HD lacefront.
I love meeting very old people and asking them inane questions about the past.
It helps to know when stuff was invented. I asked my great grandma how it like was before traffic lights were common. She slowly turned to look at me, paused for a full 5 seconds and then said “bad.”
Once you hit 23, it’s your responsibility to facilitate holiday traditions in your life and home.
If you don’t, it will never “feel like Christmas” again.
Time passage will also feel like “endless scroll” if you don’t create and uphold seasonal activities.
My main opinion on the new Avatar is that the entire thing seemed rushed in a way that gives me labor concerns.
The script obviously needed more passes, the actors visibly needed more time with their lines, the costumes were beautiful but looked rushed production wise---
Happy new years everyone it’s 2mq I’m drunkenly making quiche bc I know hungover Kayla will appreciate quiche!!
It’s mushroom sage and. Red onion quiche and it’s gonna be so good and I have to take it out the oven at 3am here’s hoping I don’t fall asleep and wake up to fire
Idk I just think it would be neat. Nice Ace love story.
I just think the parallel of him working hard and studying to be able to solve her riddles in his youth, While she struggles to think up riddles he couldn’t possibly lose in his final years, is romantic.
Sad ending. I think he would die in his sleep beside her and she would eat him in a very Where The Wild Things Are “I’ll eat you up I love you so” Way.
Keep his bones, bleached white in the sun. Wear them maybe. The only man who mattered.
If they did cheat, of course, they’ll have to stand there and deal with the emotional devastation of a teacher coming to them with love and hope, excited for them while standing in their lies
But even then, maybe that encouragement is what they need to try for real next time.
I hope Ayo Edebiri develops a career long relationship with the country of Ireland and what was once a joke becomes something lasting and tender
I just think it would be neat.
—a story of hardship overcome, like maybe they have been homeless and finally found stability. Or maybe they finally became medicated for an issue or (!!!) got glasses or a hearing aid.
Or maybe you might recieve the gift of learning a new method that might help other students.
Roll on deodorant wasn’t invented until the late 1940s and men didn’t really wear it until like the early 60s. Go ask your grandparents about that. Mine said they mostly used talc (baby powder) before that and I said did it work and she said “we thought so until the new stuff.”
Children are precious and most of them want to succeed. Many are handling unimaginable circumstances.
Idk, I wouldn’t want to be the sort of teacher who raises a giant stink and then realizes that entire semester the child literally couldn’t see anything well enough to learn.
I hope Ayo Edebiri develops a career long relationship with the country of Ireland and what was once a joke becomes something lasting and tender
I just think it would be neat.
Maybe the weird AI art people just need to settle down and watch Amadeus.
A lot of what’s wrong with them could be cured by watching Miloš Forman’s 1984 3 hour epic film Amadeus, all about what they seem to be struggling to grasp.
Even if they broke down and admitted they cheated, at the core of that decision is a desperate fear of failure. There is always the option to do nothing and get a D, but they were moved to act, even if it was to pretend and be dishonest.
I’m too tender to teach, i think.
Something about this entire situation seems like bait to me….something isn’t right here. I would be unsurprised if this entire thing was data seeking for a thesis/project or part of some kind of investigation leading to a news story.
Everything seems too….simple. Like bait.
It’s been over a decade since I’ve seen shymalan’s Yue wig in motion, but if it’s not 100% human hair:
It’s a majority human/fiber blend or a human/horse hair blend, with more human hair at the hairline and more blend toward the back for length/density.
I like when babies and children are loud in public.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I enjoy a good commotion. The more unhinged the better.
Once at Olive Garden I saw a toddler throw his soup vertically.
babies in public spaces are fine! babies are just little dudes who don't know what's going on so they sometimes they cause a ruckus. a large percentage of grown adults do know what's going on and cause a ruckus anyway, and that's much worse, because they are large
Asking them about historical events has its own place and is a thing you should do too.
But this is mostly about asking them about casual stuff. For example, my grandma told me that modern bras are WAY more uncomfortable than the ones from the 1950s. Guess what kind I wear now.
In the show Suits an editors assistant sued her employer for “stealing her idea.” An idea she pitched to her boss, who made the proposal IP work and contracted another author. The publisher, irritated, tried to settle with her for 30k and she turned it down.
I started shrieking.
Whenever there's a film featuring any profession/hobby all I can think the whole time I'm watching is like, so are people within this hobby totally unable to enjoy this as a film because of petty things it gets wrong. The better the film the funnier it is to think about
@danghentschel
If I got this from a teacher I would start crying tbh. Even if I hated the class I would not tell you bc I would feel so bad after getting this. The vulnerability of figures of authority is not for the weak, I’ll tell you what.
Interestingly though, the beautiful Casey Camp-Horinek who played Gran Gran IS wearing a lacefront.
But it is under customized and the lace isn't HD. The knots were large, unbleached and visible on camera, and the hairline wasn't plucked or thinned along the sides.
I might be off base for suggesting this (tell me if I am)
But, I wonder if Netflix commissioned Yue's wig from someone who makes extremely high quality cosplay wigs for the professional cosplay community? I'm struggling to imagine someone from the Hair Stylists Guild making this
Amal almost never slays but I think the issue is that she’s so mind numbingly gorgeous that literally no dress ever does her platinum face card justice. I think if I saw her in real life my knees would just buckle.
Absolutely a Golden Apple fight contestant.
M. Night Shyamalan's Yue Had hers installed something like this.
If it’s not a full lace unit then bare minimum it’s a 13x6 unit that’s been bleached AND toned, with baby hairs cut and hairline plucked. You know that’s right 🫰🔥
I have contacts implanted in my eyes (instead of lasik) and in order to make sure that doesn’t instantly give you glaucoma, they have to punch a hole into your iris.
It felt….indescribable. A pain so acute and deeply unsettling in a body part never designed to be touched.
I also kind of like the idea that other people still come and challenge her riddles and fail and she eats them while he just stands there, petting her shoulder, while they beg for their lives.
Monster (literal)/ Monster (figurative) Romance.
Netflix Yue’s wig was likely made like this.
Which is an especially useful way to make synthetic wigs for character appearances, Disney park appearances and also way fancier and more gorgeous ones are made this way for drag shows.
Not because its "so poorly made" or anything. Its extremely well made, its just kind of a different product??
Its like a silicone sponge and a traditional sponge. Both sponges, both for dishes, both same size and shape, but one is very much for a different dish cleaning purpose.
There has to be a night, where he finally gets one wrong. Where he’s already made his bed and lay his grey head down, eyes closed. After he answers, her lion ears prick up and she thinks
“Ah. This is the beginning of the end.”
And thinks hard all night until his answer is right
It took me 2 years after moving out of my parents house and being weirdly depressed to realize this.
The 3rd year I went to the bird sanctuary and botanic gardens in the Spring, the beach in the Summer, apple picking in the Fall and Christmas outdoor market in Winter and HEALED
It is ever so slightly too salty and it appears I used slices of mozzarella in it instead of shredded cheese.
But tbh I was almost blackout when I made this, so I’m deciding to be proud of my unsupervised subconscious anyway.
Happy January 1st everyone!
“Stop quoting text posts and poems, they said visual art!”
Has it occurred to you that the “visual art” is the screenshot itself that a human being has been carrying in their phone in their pocket for days, months, or even years?
"Their costumes look like cosplay!"
Their costumes look like someone had innovative and loving sketch design, but was given no time to add necessary aging/customization detail, and a restricted selection of fabrics.
If you like this, maybe you’d like the rest of my work. I have a very passionate contemporary romance coming out in March that I would love if you pre-ordered.
Thank you 🌸 it means the world to me.

--the digital effects were made with some game design engine (there are scenes that look like Witcher 3 gameplay).
There are a lot of people complaining, but I haven't seen a single complaint that didn't seem like its source was actually unethical time crunch.
I would be unsurprised if she bought/brought her own specifically for filming this series.
Gran gran’s wig is so drastically different from any of the other wigs on set, and even installed kind of different from the HD lace beards/iroh’s wig.

The funniest part about all of this is that The Mistress Friendly was more stressful than anything else mentioned. The pregnant teenagers were a breeze compared to Barbara Jean in her home
"Grandma just said the title sequence, there is too much explaining and not enough showing
Its like a script someone quickly wrote that was designed to outline narrative beats, that someone else was supposed to refine but management was like "This is fine. We're using this."
I don't mean like "current employment opportunities"
I'm looking for someone saying something like "i am an accountant and the last time I had to talk to someone in person was 3 years ago, maybe he could do that"
My opinion on the rest of the show is similar. I am so worried for artists and artisans that work on stuff for streaming platforms. Things seem so dire.
At the end of the day, I am very proud of them because its so visible how hard they worked on this.
My main opinion on the new Avatar is that the entire thing seemed rushed in a way that gives me labor concerns.
The script obviously needed more passes, the actors visibly needed more time with their lines, the costumes were beautiful but looked rushed production wise---
This is also....a rushed cheap choice that makes me think no one was officially hired to handle this specific element of props making, and no budget towards consultation :
No for real did the Netflix ATLA show's prop department not consult any Chinese speakers because this is SO weird it's like a mix between classical Chinese and Google translate 😭 it reads like "We hath yet to regard any proof of human civilization's existence"
Everything about this entire production looked like their choices were mostly fine:
But EVERYONE needed another six months of breathing room to get everything ready, and an arts budget overseen by someone with familiarity with industry standards, and NO ONE was granted it.
I can't even say "oh, they overweighted the CGI budget to do X, or they overweighted the costume budget to do Y." Its all of them.
All of the components show signs that someone was like "fuck...fuck... I think this might work. I hope this works."
People love going to the movies. They adore it.
I’ve firmly believed since 2007 that if theaters cut ticket prices to about 5-8$, their revenue would massively exceed what they’re getting at $15-20 because of the sheer quantity of people who would instantly have access.
When the film industry is declared dead because people "aren't going to the theaters!" I think of everyone who works 50 hrs/week, stresses about the grocery bill, and already pays for 2 streaming services in order to have TV. Sometimes I think of kids/pets. Cars. Rent. Mortgage.
Its giving Tristan and Iseult. It's giving until we chafe and start to starve to death.
But then they pull back and their faces are like bestie bestie bestie bestie and its such a whiplash, emotionally speaking, for me specifically. What a dynamic!!! I'm obsessed.
I wish I could give whoever did hair and makeup a hug because I KNOW they were in the trenches and they pulled this whole production off so well with what they had access to. They really put in WORK.
This is one of those things that I can definitely see feeling this way about right now.
But imagine randomly finding this book 20 years from now? It would be so cool to find what music people thought was cool and atmospheric like this.
The way her career didn’t explode after this incredible season feels so r*c!st to me.
So talented, and with a face like one of God’s actual angels??? I seethe about it every time I see her. When will my queen be in every project ever devised?! Justice for Simone Ashley!
Speaking of Old Man Yaoi, a few years ago I told a queer elder (70s) about it and he started tearing up and said something like:
“I didn’t know the young people cared [about our love]”
And “it’s just so good to know they’re thinking about us”
then I cried too, so there’s that.
Everyone smart I know sat down to Saltburn expecting depth and greatness and came back extremely upset, so when it was my turn I sat down like “Time to get sloppy!”
And with this mindset, the axe of disappointment swished over my head instead of slamming right into my neck.
Male Ally Wearing "Directed By Elaine May" T-Shirt
Emerald Fennell isn't a bad director because she's an aristocrat. There are plenty of undeniably great artists who grew up rich. She's awful because she's aesthetically incoherent, deeply unfunny, and devoid of insight. As subversive as a PEG THE PATRIARCHY dress. Pitiful.
For her’s, it looks like someone took care to purchase a very very nice commercial human hair salt and pepper lace front wig from a regular retailer.
Then removed lace all the way up to the hairline, carefully installed it, straight from the box, then styled it.
Even the cosmetics and hair gave me pause. The guy playing sokka is in self tanner, probably a green tinted foam, to try to get him to kind of match his co-star.
And ang's tattoo, gorgeously applied and designed, has some bleed that makes me wonder what they used for it.
I don’t usually hawk my work under my viral tweets because generally, the topic of the tweet is unrelated to what I do.
But this is exactly what my books are like. Just devastating concept after devastating concept. (Icarus, Hollis brown (pre-pub) and The weight of the stars)
Woah, Neptune is actually light blue! We'd been misinformed for 35 years!
The well-known images from Voyager 2 were not accurately colour balanced & apparently they also increased the contrast way more than for the Uranus images. Here the corrected ones:
She turned down the $30k, which we all know is almost exactly what a high midlist advance for a completed manuscript from an agented author would be, because she “thought she could get more”
With no manuscript.
Which almost spun me into an asthma attack from rage
Not only did the editors assistant sign a contract stating that the employer owned any ideas pitched at work.
She was angry that her boss used it because “they were friends’ And she thought she’d never think up another book idea. There was no manuscript, just her having an idea.
This is so unhinged! If you can’t take the heat don’t read your own reviews! People are allowed to not enjoy your work! It’s not like you 5 star enjoy everything you consume.
this is so condescending and weird, does any other medium have creators like this? Or is it just authors
Allow me to introduce you to one of the spookiest books I ever read as a child. I still think about it roughly once a year.
At the time I was super into slasher stories, but this chilled me more.
Elon Musk's brain chip company Neuralink has implanted its first device in a live human being.
Musk says his brain chip will allow humans to communicate without talking, listen to music simply by thinking of a song title, and treat mental health issues.

It very much is giving me the vibe that the cosmetic budget was shoestring and they're innovating instead of using film/tv standard product.
Almost no one in the cast is wearing a wig, which is a smart choice bc its better to have no wigs than only being able to afford bad ones.
@minareadss
Even he seemed like "what is going on???" the whole time. This is the face of a man who can't quite understand how the hell this is happening to him, specifically.
The rise in misogyny podcast bros and sugar baby millionare-hunter podcast girls is later going to be academically discussed as an early harbinger of impending severe economic downturn.
Because at their core, both are trying to solve the same problem: Not having enough resource.
@eventualforever
The third one is, I say with deep seriousness, one of the top ten best films about time travel of all time.
Such a bonkers feat accomplished by few:
1st movie (perfect) 2nd movie (soulless sloppy cash grab) 3rd movie (perfect, can even be watched directly after 1st movie)
I'm only a few episodes in but the only full wigs I've seen so far are Yue's, Ozai's and Iroh's and I'm not going to say a single word against them because of what I assume was going on in the backend.
I will say that Iroh's looks the best though.
It hurt so much it left me breathless.
But it was the strangeness of it that left a greater impression. I imagine the wrongness of the touch is similar to someone touching a bone. It’s like your soul screams “what are you doing in there.”
And whoever was in charge of people who wore some kind of hairpiece, made the banger of a choice to do well placed human hair extensions (azula's bangs)
Gran gran's wig is an off the rack lace front with commercial consumer quality lace (not HD film)and unbleached knots (?!)
They then had a scene where she got to haughtily address her boss (the editor who still worked at the publisher) and claim she wanted public credit for the idea, not money.
Then she wound up getting no credit AND no 30k bc she pissed off Mike Ross and that man shoots to kill 🤪
Bradley Cooper says "there's no chairs" on set when he directs: "I’ve always hated chairs on sets; your energy dips the minute you sit down in a chair. There's no video village."
He's also adopted Christian Bale's acting method: "I had heard stories about Daniel Day-Lewis. I
oh I forgot: The woman who did this had never written a book before and the author they gave the contract to had written several books. A few were in the mainstream bookstore where this woman currently worked.
At the end Mike Ross said "Maybe you should try actually writing.😬"
Someone needs to go back and study what exactly it was about the marketing for Dear Evan Hanson that made everyone think it was a queer coming of age story and not a play about a sad liar
I need people to stop saying weird shit about Amber Midthunder over this thread.
This is about WIGS and labor concerns.
Amber is an exceptional actress, of breathtaking talent. She didn’t do her best to out-act this accessory and script to be spoken of in this way.
Zendaya is so funny. She’s so fucking hot but no matter what you can always see the clownery in her eyes.
The jester’s spirit for mischief tucked in the corner of her grin.
In the same way i would like to be giggling in the dark of the trojan horse, I also wish I was standing with the other disciples (aged 20-28) roughly 1 nano second after judas kissed jesus in front of cops
I bet someone made a very funny noise, I bet someone said "what the fuck"
