Hi, to clarify: The show explores a totally new set of teenage lives. (Re-casting Nadine, Mr. Bruner, etc. would be insane and I’d kill myself.) Only thing it borrows from the film is its commitment to capturing adolescence realistically. The kind of show I think we need more of.
Exclusive: YouTube Red is readying a TV spinoff of Hailee Steinfeld feature ‘Edge of Seventeen’ — with a new cast and the film’s writer/director attached. Details:

I watched the film with my teenage daughter (we both loved it) and she said “what was even cooler is that they looked like normal kids I would know, and they wore the same things twice sometimes” As both a mom and a comedy writer I have to say thank you for that. It matters.
@CaillouPettis
It won't follow any of the original characters. FX's spin-off of Fargo is a good reference for what we're doing. Similar tone and feel, but all new characters, situations, and themes.

I totally agree, ma’am. I loved your film The Edge of Seventeen. 👏♥️ I watched it opening night. I’m so excited to see what stories you have to tell next. Huge fan of yours. Thank you. 🙂
@KFremonCraig
Hell yeah but please try to have realistic teachers this time, teachers are obligated to do something if you say you wanna kill yourself,
@KFremonCraig
Beyond excited to see what else you create in this world! Congratulations!! I knew others would connect to it as I did at the WIF screening. Can. Not. Wait!
