So two weeks ago I went to
#CliftonBeach
.
The private security presence was noticeable.
The clear message communicated that people like me were welcome. People unlike me? Not so much.
Cape Town of today feels a lot like the Cape Town of my childhood in the 1970s.
It’s not OK.
@JustineLimLaw
This is courageous of you Justine to speak out against this horrendous and blatant racist conduct. It will not be tolerated and must never be allowed in this country, not again. Cleansing or no cleansing.
@JustineLimLaw
Thank you for this reflection
@JustineLimLaw
. Yesterday, I posted about my discomfort & disappointment at the ‘coincidental’ positioning of armed PPA patrols next to our table.
@JustineLimLaw
What was this clear message and how was it communicated? Were you with non-white people at the time & something happened? Specifics would help; *vaguely* inferring that there is some sort of racist agenda going on is unproductive.
@JustineLimLaw
@kaysexwale
Wow, people are asking how the unwelcome message was communicated. Really? So it is'nt enough what
@JustineLimLaw
says, you need specifics so you can decide whether racist undertones were present?
@JustineLimLaw
Honestly, some people enjoy this privilege so much, they don't see anything wrong with it... And it's treatment, just the cold treatment will tell if you welcomed or not...!
