While we can't carry passengers just yet, our crews at Hatteras are literally "ferrying" heavy equipment to Ocracoke, as NCDOT road crews work to reopen NC12 between the Ocracoke ferry terminal and the NPS Pony Pens!

NCDOT Ferry’s MV Sea Level is at Stevens Towing (SC) for its US Coast Guard required credit dry dock.Sending her to an external shipyard ensures we’ll have enough vessels ready for the ‘26 summer schedule on Ocracoke’s sound routes.When she returns, she will be in tip top shape!

Our Hatteras ferries got busy early this morning moving some NCDOT equipment over to Ocracoke to help clear and shore up dunes on NC12. As a reminder, the highway is OPEN and passable, but drive with caution as there will be some sand, water, and heavy equipment on the roadway!
