Jesus himself shows us what abiding looks like. John 15:10. He lived with his heart continually turned toward the Father — seeking his will, receiving his words, joining his work. In a word: obedience.

Don’t just try to read the Bible more. Become the kind of person who wouldn’t go a day without hearing from God.

We can often approach spiritual habits like outcomes to achieve, but a better question is: Not “What do I want to do?” But “Who do I want to be?” Be the kind of person who has a relationship with God … and let your habits follow.

What does it mean that Jesus calls us his friends?

It can feel like we’re surrounded by opposition, but the mission hasn’t changed: Find the Hearers. Preach Jesus. Trust God is already at work. He has many in these cities who are his.
