Because of vaccines.
HI from a natural infection is much more nuanced because the virus evolves to adapt to immune pressure. It will overtime come to an equilibrium whereby it can maintain itself in the population.
A: that won’t happen in 1 wave
B: sick/old still v vulnerable
@stuartjdneil
Yes, but people stating that herd immunity doesn't work is misleading and a lie.
Vaccines work on the HI principal and in some cases may enhance it, but without that basic mechanism we're all doomed, vulnerable or not.
@JohnMurphy51
If natural herd immunity isn’t a thing, then how can vaccine-induced herd immunity be a thing? It cannot. But they’ll get some corrupt scientists to try to explain how it does work in that situation.....”my vaccine protects you, your vaccine protects me..”

@KurtGeek
Yup. It's most likely they'd never have been born if herd immunity didn't work.
In fact the human race would probably be extinct or would never have existed.
