@JaneyGodley Ours was always a big tin of Old Oak ham in a kinda triangular tin you needed a wee key to open - personally I liked the jelly in it ๐

@JaneyGodley I am pleasantly surprised we share a lot of similar experiences. But the only thing missing here is a sliced banana ๐

@JaneyGodley That takes me back. It took me many years to stop sneering at European salads - when on holiday - because there wasnโt a boiled egg.

@JaneyGodley Take the Ham away and that was every restaurant/hotel/cafรฉ's vegetarian offer in the 70's-80's

@JaneyGodley Same here in Wales but because my Dad was Irish, we would either have portion of chips or mash on the side. My preference when I was younger was mash. I would eat all the healthy stuff. Followed by the egg. Then the prize at the end, me reward -The mash. Dad would make it buttery

@JaneyGodley My mum packed salads for a trip to a beach. We had plastic plate and proper cutlery. We also had a little gas stove so she could boil the kettle for her cup of tea. No sandy sandwiches for us. I much prefer sandwiches, sandy or otherwise to salads๐คฃ

@JaneyGodley That looks a very posh salad from when I was growing up! We had a couple of slices big tomatoes, couple slices cucumber, couple slices ham, and couple leafs of very plain lettuce, and egg if you liked it (not for me). Definitely not mixed in, but option of a teaspoon salad cream

@JaneyGodley Husband would eat this every fecking day apart from the cheese. He'd have more beetroot, some black pudding, and a pork pie to compensate.
