A brief reminder that though i get pulled off course onto writing about LGBT issues far too often, i am now getting back into writing Fantasy Fiction.
Check out the world of
#Cassonne
: and here is a good place to start.
Dear Mrs Jenkyns,
Last week your daughter, Andrea (49), was set the task of writing a 'resignation letter'. We thought this might be a bit of fun for her and her class.
Unfortunately, Andrea has not excelled. We will be asking her to stay after school and do it again.
Talking of hypocrites... I understand Hilary Cass is a medical doctor and paediatrician.
That means over a lifetime, she's issued thousands of prescriptions for drugs that... do not meet the criteria she is demanding for trans healthcare.
Can her prescribing list be FOI'd?
Can people please stop treating
#JKRowling
as some batty old lady with odd nasty views, when she is in fact deeply implicated in organising against trans folks...
A short but important thread...
Obvs, they seem to misunderstand the point of a campaigning charity...and thumbs up to all those pointing out that if we took that attitude, women would still be waiting for the vote, and upskirting would still be lawful.
That's just for starters.
But there's more...
But it also betrays a deeper philosophical issue with gc's and gc "thinking".
To wit, they don't really seem capable of distinguishing between "what the law is" and "what they would like the law to be".
Perhaps that is not surprising...
Health professionals: "Trans people need to stop self-medding and leave complex stuff like transition to the experts"
Me, a trans woman: <spends half an hour on phone to gp explaining why I need breast scans...but not cervical tests. Also why checking my prostate is a good idea>
Given how their bad takes on Equality law are now so extensive they could probably fill an entire textbook.
Or the fact that they have conjured the wholly imaginary "sex-based rights" onto the UK statute books out of thin air.
But, and here's a caveat...
Then and now:
1933: Nazis destroy the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, one of the most significant bodies researching sex & sexuality.
2023: GOP votes to defund one of the largest most prestigious organisations researching sex & sexuality:
I have never trained for Stonewall. Don't work for them. Never have.
Though they may have bought me a coffee and a sandwich once.
But i have trained for various trans orgs and...i do my best to distinguish what is from what i'd like.
For instance...
Wow! Just been told by the grc panel helpline that neither my passport nor driving licence are acceptable evidence.
Why?
Because I got them in 2013 and they want docs from last two years.
Like wtf!
@KatyMontgomerie
@TransActualUK
...here's the law on non-binary recognition. It's shit. But it is what it is.
It would be nice to do better.
Or, wearing my hat as chair of
@TransMediaWatch
...
...i couldn't do that sort of session if i did not understand that distinction.
Because how can you campaign on anything, least of all to change the law, if you don't a) understand what the current legal situation is and b) have an endgame you'd like to see...
...here's what the law says about slurring groups (next to nothing). Also what the IPSO code of practice says on same.
They're both shit.
It would be nice to do better.
In fact...
@SloaneFragment
Omg...long since debunked.
It wasn't "recently discovered".
Someone wrote a highly speculative paper on the topic... which later turned out not to stand up on analysis.
Loving
#Vera
this evening...
One of the characters is a trans woman forced to leave a womens hostel because gc's... and into a men's hostel, to which Vera says:
"That's no place for a lass like you" (or equivalent).
Prepare for gc meltdown

Tbf, Hector was mostly reluctant warrior.
Pretty pissed off that his brother started the whole mess...
...and then manipulated at every turn by the Gods to go out and fight.
UK 2022.
Where a bunch of privileged middle aged women with no medical qualifications quote medics with zero expertise in treatment of trans people and, instead of calling them out as bigots and charlatans, the mainstream media treat their ignorance like it was holy writ!
Ciscourse:
Trans (5): I'm a girl
GCs: Isn't he cute!
Trans (11): I'm a girl. Believe me.
GCs: It's just a phase! He'll grow out of it.
Trans (14): Help! Puberty! Make it stop!
GCs: It's for your own good
Trans (19): cis fuckers!
GCs: Typical TRA: misogynist male!
Tentative ask: who would be interested in a book that details the history of trans healthcare in the UK from 50s to now, with analysis of where it went wrong and how to put it right?
@PaulBrandITV
Now you're talking utter nonsense, Paul.
Lgb alliance is not a community uprising in any sense...it is astro-turfing from outside built on dark money, and there is next to nothing the lgbt community can do about it.
A thread about a small thing that is actually a very big thing indeed, and highlights perfectly how the UK media distorts any news about trans people at its very core...
Please stay with this...
@AidanCTweets
Almost correct.
But not the Boris Johnson thing.
They wrote to his office. Some lowly diary sec sent back a cut and paste letter saying sorry, but the PM had more pressing calls on his time, but wished them well.
This, pretend newspaper
@thetimes
reported as "support"
Dear Twitter,
I am confused. A bunch of people who want the right enshrined in law to be as nasty and vile to a minority as takes their fancy...
...are currently getting their knickers in a twist about people being not very nice to a multi-millionaire author.
Can you explain?
Bit of a long one...but an end to end evaluation of the claims about trans sex offenders/rapists. You might want to bookmark this and/or borrow from it for briefings.
So here is another interesting thing.
The SI Order was "made" at 1.16pm.
It was laid before parliament at 4pm.
Yet the timestamp on the Daily Mail write-up of it is 3.20pm.
Does this indicate that the government told the press before they told parliament?
Imagine if the headline was “Every girl who has had an abortion on NHS in past decade will have medical records scrutinised to see how many regret the procedure”…!!?? 😣
This is an absolute VIOLATION of medical data privacy taken without CONSENT!! 😣

Your reminder on this
#TransDayOfVisibility2023
that the attacks on the trans community are part of a much wider racist, antisemitic and misogynistic campaign, and that if we do not all stand together we all lose.
Especially women...
@KatyMontgomerie
Actually...this says a lot about the underlying mindset in more ways than one.
The chances of an individual encountering a trans woman in an average day are very low.
But if they are doing this sort of shit, the transphobe likely think they are surrounded by us!
@joshparry
Hmmm. I frequently encounter stories of trans women being attacked, verbally or physically, for what we allegedly do to lesbians.
This is direct result of a lying piece by the BBC. That piece is even cited at times by perps.
If only a major news org would expose that!
The funny/not funny thing is that gender criticality is not just in bed with the far right because they see it as a useful tactical alliance (think russia-germany non-aggression pact, 1939)...but gc's also provide a massive ideological boost for the far right.
A short 🧵...
GCs blaming trans women for the loss of Roe is just mindboggling in so many ways, but one big baseline is that the average trans woman is more likely to be militantly pro-choice and solidarity minded on this issue than cis women. Like it's hard to find a more committed demo
Also, this fine display of omerta must have overlapped with the time when the BBC was putting together its disgraceful piece of sensationalism about trans women "forcing lesbians".
What could possibly be the difference?
Oh, yeah. Cohen can sue. Trans women collectively can't...
As a procession of journalists/not-journalists continue to shill unashamedly, unquestioningly for the gender crits, a pattern, some background that the former seem blithely ignorant of.
A thread.
Not long ago some gender crits ...including, istr, Maya not-worthy-of-respect Forstater, were hohoho-ing about their latest trans gotcha...
This was the word "transphobic" which, they claimed, was open to such wide interpretation and none that it was eminently litigable...
What fun we'll have, they giggled, like the pathetic schoolgirls they are, suing trans folk who dare to call us "transphobic".
Except, of course, libel is an expensive game and only available to the richest most abusive players. So their options were limited...
If you are a journalist and you'd not refer to "the black issue", "the Jewish issue" or "the Gay issue"....
...what makes you think it is OK to refer to "the Trans issue"?
We are people, too.
There comes a point when fellow-travelling becomes indistinguishable from religious bigotry and pure fascism.
Many in the anti-trans lobby like to cry
#NotAllBigots
as each new far right affiliation is unveiled. At some point this excuse can no longer hold...
Thread (long).
When do we stop being nice and pretending that gender crittery is anything to do with feminism.
That it has about as much in common with advancing the rights of women as the National Socialist Women's League, founded in 1931, to explain the benefits of Nazism to women and girls?
Now...i am not deep enough in the counsels of these bigots to know one way or other.
But folks may remember that one of the staunchest of Forspaffer defenders was...
#JKRowling
...and so great the warmth of the latter's support that one would find it not hard to imagine they chat
Following the grotesque attempt by womans_plaice_uk to claim Lyra McKee as one of their heroes, here's a thing on erasure and re-writing of history...a thing that terfs and the anti-trans lobby alike seem very keen on doing.
THREAD
And if they chat...what might one individual who went to law to defend their right to say nasty things to trans folks' faces have to say to a rich women with hyper-active lawyers?
I cannot imagine...
Hello, Main Stream Media...
Is there anyone out there listening? Like, i know it must be hard, coming up with all these anti-trans narratives every day of the week.
But if that is how you are going to work, do not be surprised if trans folk don't actually buy them.
Like... 🧵
@KatyMontgomerie
Suspect, as always, we should await an actual verdict.
Because after years of interacting with the UK legal system, there is next to nothing about what it does that could surprise me nowadays...
@mollycrabapple
@melissagira
And the MSM cant help itself. Adverbs are rarely useful...oft a sign of lazy writing.
And what gets adverbed? Why, the officer's hand which was not just stabbed but SEVERELY stabbed....
@KatyMontgomerie
Everywhere they go...on public transport, at work, in the shops...they are seeing trans women!
It's almost like they are suffering from some sort of delusion/mental illness.
Time, perhaps to call it what it is and get the worst cases treated...
Here's a thing that we will not be seeing reported anywhere in the MSM today. That is the sheer terror that the election of
#RishiSunak
has created across large parts of the queer community.
And, like, if just being in government makes people afraid, mebbe it should be mentioned
@JamesMelville
Er, no. They are citing 40 degrees as national emergency, on account of the fact we've never done that before.
I know you're a journo and not good with figures. But 40 and 30 are different.
Very different.
Honest.
Orban's rollback of trans rights in Hungary is no flash in the pan.
The entire LGBT community needs to get its act together now, before it is too late...
@ParkerMolloy
@dcexaminer
No...and it's not happening.
What was suggested was that midwives dealing with trans guys or non-binary folks might use more inclusive language.
That's it.
Cis women will still get treated as before.
@AidanCTweets
@tristangrayedi
@nytimes
@jk_rowling
Omg! That is so out of the UK press playbook!
Here, our press standards body,
#IPSO
has actually endorsed the use of made-up quotes by "trans activists", because they are the "sort of thing" TA's would say...
Though it would not surprise me at all if one of their girly giggling sessions ended with a determination to own the trans yet further by erasing the word transphobic from common parlance...
@BootstrapCook
We already follow/follow...but reading your pasta blog today, i was bowled over by just how you communicated what needed to be said while clearly biting back absolute fury as you did so!
So if trans stuff is political...will the
@BBC
be having words with all those producers and the like who go to women's place rallies and tweet enthusiastically endorsing anti-trans groups who only exist as twitter accounts?
@benjaminbutter
@HelenCBelcher
@jennie_kermode
#BBCWatch
Because it really is time to start collating evidence on the hypocrisy and transphobia endemic at the BBC.
Here is something practical for folks to do!
While the self-obsessed exhibitionists of
#ManFriday
were simpering over how clever they were flashing their boobs at a bunch of guys, this was happening to a real trans woman.
I've spent the last week talking to lawyers, academics, politicians and others...all agreeing that the WHRC Declaration is toxic...all afraid to speak out, as individuals.
So here's a thing you can do. Because there is strength in solidarity:
@megsiobhan
@laceandwhimsy
Oh that's mild. Suspect you missed the (serious) film review whinging about the lack of kink and how the amazon's were insufficiently sexy
Looks like that time again...when i dust off my lengthy piece on off-label prescribing and highlight how if anyone took Cass serioously, we'd have to abandon most medication for children and pregnant women...
Following up on TransActual's campaign on keeping your vote, here is what is at stake this May:
Your right to vote (and why and how the government is trying to take it from you):
Look...the bathroom issue is totally serious (and definitely could lead to trans people being excluded from society)
So no-one...i mean no-one...should be mocking gender crits for their ridiculous campaign!
@FlorenceHRScott
...from privileged cis white folk not used to being contradicted, and therefore cross about it.
Both in general and in respect of individual episodes we are aware of.
That christo-fascist strategy in full, endorsed by gender crits, WPUK, FPFW, etc:
1. Abolish the alphabet soup (LGBTQIAetc): cut back to LGBT
2. Remove the T. They're different doncha know?
3. Repeat for B.
4. LG. Doesn't REALLY go together. Let's separate.
5. Oppress the L
No, i didn't "know" i was trans when i was young. That is because society prevented me from knowing.
Sadly, some bigots want us to go back to those days.
#IFirstKnewIWasLGBTQ
@AdiDee_Gee
@GreenPartyWomen
Also, what a ridiculous straw man.
Trans folks don't argue that "rapists don't need to pretend to be something they're not..."... because we are well aware that users lie.
What we do say is they'll take the easy path.
Being a police officer and abuser is easy...
Wow! UK gov so obsessed w. trans folk, it wants to introduce segregation (aka apartheid) for the handful of trans patients in hospital.
That's the same folk telling hospitals they can stop testing for, or segregating patients with
#COVID
, an illness that literally kills people!
Trans erasing lesbians! OMG!!! Stop the LGBT movement at once: I want to get off. Oh, the horror...
In the background, David Attenborough dons his waders once more, to intervene in the greatest mass extinction the world has ever seen.
What i love about this is that after Led By Donkeys did their protest, painting the road outside the Russian embassy in
#Ukraine
colours (blue & yellow), the Met then sent out a police van, also painted in blue and yellow!

This government: trans folk self-medding is dangerous and we will do everything we can to stamp it out.
Also this government: the Health Sec unlawfully supplying prescription drugs to her mates is just her showing initiative.
Nothing to see here...
Ok, let's be clear, antibiotics are prescription only because antibiotic resistance is a thing. If we get to a point where multiple drug resistant bacteria develop millions will die. WTAF is the health secretary handing out unprescribed antibiotics to her relatives?
@LauraMStuart9
What absolute bollocks. Those were the items on ration.
There were loads of items NOT on ration.
What that means is that many of the items that were more expensive in terms of energy required to import or produce them were restricted.
Trans folk (2019): This government is going to try and get rid of Human Rights in the UK and the media are contributing hugely to that outcome.
The Guardian (2021): This is outrageous! Government is attacking Human Rights. What could possibly have led to that?
#cisplaining
@JuliaHB1
Sorry Julia...that is nonsense.
90% accurate does NOT mean what this implies. And it would be odd indeed if
p{error|positive} = p{error|negative}
Not impossible...but very unlikely.
And yeah...I used to build these models for a living.
Not an easy read. Because here is a catalogue of much of the legislative shit coming down the track towards the UK trans community, starting this week.
TW: if you are easily upset, do not read.
@carolecadwalla
As I understand It,
#NewZealand
has suspended parliament and the executive is in charge but...one key difference...
They've set up a select committee, chaired by the leader of the opposition, specifically to scrutinise the government through this crisis...
Gosh! Trans exclusion in Italy is about as empathic as UK trans exclusion.
Here we have a gender crit organisation lectures a trans guy on his "real" gender just two days after his partner was killed...possibly murdered!
@DIVAmagazine
@LindaRiley8
Some of you may have noticed the increasing similarity between anti-trans activism and more traditional MRA activity, but can't quite put your finger on it.
This handy list of ten tell-tale signs may help.
@_DylanHamilton_
Had one of those this week in a fairly high profile interview.
They started with a load of nonsensical ideology and then were highly surprised when i just said "Nah. That's not true!"
Upset, even.
Like they'd done all this research into trans people and...what did i know?
