🚨 MCCARTHY WINS
Kevin McCarthy of California beat Andy Biggs to become the GOP nominee for speaker of the House.
He now has to spend the next seven weeks working to get 218 supporters to win the floor vote. That will be Jan. 3.

How were there 219 voting? That is less than the number of Rs whose 2022 races have been called, and less than the number of Rs in the current House.

If McCarthy retains his leadership role in January will he be able to afford a place of his own in D.C. or will he continue to bunk with

?

This is like dreaming of owning a Mustang, except the only one you can afford has 456,000 miles, overhears, leaks oil and has no headlights, so you
@own
it but can’t use it

I have been trying to figure out where the 219 (188+31) votes are coming from... Current Rs have less than 219 seats; 118th Congress Rs only have 217 secured, so does that include not-yet-called elections? Combination of current and new members?
