To act like Kevin Love’s time in Cleveland was always smooth sailing is disingenuous. But his teammates have nothing but respect, including Dean Wade, who will always remember how he handled being benched at the end of his tenure.

And the luxury tax will likely cost the Cavs one of the members of the core four and/or De'Andre Hunter in the next few seasons. The Cavs window remains much much smaller than we think unless Mobley turns into an unquestioned top-five player.

This is a story because of the Cavs' cap situation. As a friendly reminder, this has nothing to do with the second apron and all to do with the luxury tax. The second apron is meaningless if you have a good team. Owners don't want to pay $250 million tax bills.

Correction: The Cavs traded player exception for the Ball and Okoro swap is basically worthless. But, at least we learned some stuff about the CBA, which I'm sure we'll use again. So, there's at least that.

There isn't a win-win move to be had. One of the sides isn't going to get their way and will have to deal with it next season. In the meantime, LeBron is probably going to keep doing this stuff at least until he's traded/bought out or has to show up to training camp.

LeBron staying would be in LA's best interest because they'd be good next year, sell tickets, and have future flexibility. Moving on to a title contender would be in LeBron's and we have plenty of evidence that isn't in LA.

The problem with the Lakers and LeBron is that a trade doesn't benefit either side. LA would lose cap flexibility if they brought back talent and salaries. James would be going to a team losing key contributors just to match his salary number.
