Question:
If you can change the sexual orientation of a character on a whim, what is stopping writers from making LGBT+ characters straight? If the current lore isn’t respected, why should the current one be?
@Jack_Kentner
1 - lgbt people usually go through *a lot* of introspection to realize they're queer, so changing their mind is not usually something that's very likely to happen. 2- representation is important
@lettuce_bird
1). That’s a matter of subjective opinion though. There are people who identified as queer for a time but no longer do. Writers can pull whatever reasoning out of their butt to justify their reasoning for a change, just like with turning Tim Drake bi out of the blue.

Now that you mention it, is there a particular reason why Black Panther should be black? You could just as easily place Wakanda in the Amazonas and have them all be native American, and nothing would change.

>If a character didn’t specify that they were straight even though they have only been with the opposite sex for their entire existence then their sexuality is ambiguous.
Making a character something only because the lore didn’t explicitly say they weren’t that thing is silly.

Just so tired of having exhisting characters with years behind them being changed to only pander and I mean only pander to make the woke crowd happy. Sexualality, gender swaps, and race changes are all to the point of exhaustion now. It's lazy writing to act like it's new ideas

I think it was never explicitly said tim was straight, so no sexual orientation was changed. The whole point is that now it is implied that he's bi, so it can't be changed (or at least it shouldn't, but he's just a character, anything can happen)

The amount of LGBT characters in comics underrepresents the amount of actual LGBT people in life, so when we gain some ground in terms of representation, it means a lot to us. To make those characters straight is punching down.
