So much to unpick with Liverpool right now but the 3 main issues in a nutshell for me: 1) The recruitment: Signed top players but they don’t work together. Could Slot be getting more out of them still? Yes. 2) Set pieces. 3) Konate’s form and lack of defensive options.

For me, the main difference between Slot this season versus last season is the balance of the squad he’s managing. @TheAnfieldWrap

And the point about strikers not impacting games under Slot could also be said for Szoboszlai in the No. 10 role for a lot of last season. Wirtz/Isak should be the future but Slot has never really found a way to get his No. 10 and No. 9 to consistently provide moments of magic.

Lots of square pegs in round holes at the moment. Wirtz has to be the long-term No. 10 but whenever LFC have moved away from having 3 more energetic CM’s in recent years, it leaves them far too open defensively.

One of the concerns I have with Isak is that whoever was playing as the No. 9 last season struggled to impact the game, too. Diaz was most successful in that role but was more of a facilitator for likes of Salah and Gakpo.

I don’t think we will see the best of Alex Isak and Florian Wirtz until Liverpool start playing to their strengths. Issue is I’m not sure they can play to their strengths with Mo Salah (and maybe Alexis Mac Allister) in this team.

With Robertson also missing training yesterday, would guess it will be this tomorrow: Alisson; Jones, Konate, VVD, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Ekitike

Wirtz injury is also annoying. This is exactly the sort of game LFC bought him for. Dyche will have Forest set in a low block.

Sounds like it will be Curtis Jones at RB tomorrow. Slot highlighting that Gomez is short on match fitness and didn’t train yesterday. Could Jones at full-back actually be a good thing for Liverpool’s build-up play? Might help Konate out a bit.

Yet another injury setback for Conor Bradley. Brilliant right-back but just can’t be relied on. Slot says both him and Frimpong likely to miss at least 3 weeks, in which Liverpool play 7 games.

What a performance that was. A genuine 10/10 from Conor Bradley and a few others not far behind him.

Dom Szoboszlai really is becoming an elite midfielder. Got absolutely everything. Get that new contract done.

Hoping we’ve not gone back to the same system that didn’t work vs Chelsea or United. Robertson unfortunate.

Slot says Isak had to come off with a groin issue. In which case I’d play the same system but Salah up top with Ekitike.

Team for Saturday? I’d be going with the same XI (Bradley for Frimpong). If Gravenberch is fit Slot has a decision to make but surely you can’t take Szoboszlai or Jones out the midfield.

Lots of good individual performances tonight but Szoboszlai the pick of the bunch for me. Liverpool’s player of the season so far.

Aside from that, Frankfurt have conceded 18 goals in their last 5 games. Do you take Salah and Isak out the firing line or use this as a game to try and build confidence?

“…which we've seen when we played Bournemouth for example, when we played the Community Shield - that we missed a little bit of a player that was always protecting our back four.” Something needs to change and Gravenberch’s injury might force Slot’s hand a bit.

Intrigued to see the line-up tonight. Slot pre-match on Gravenberch’s absence: “That already means I definitely have to change one player and with him not being there, that might mean something for others as well, because he has such a particular quality in our squad…”

As if they’re coming out with this. You can see him look at it and put his whistle to his mouth. Just decides not to blow. As usual they’re just making it up as they go along.

Michael Oliver didn't see the head injury, apparently, despite being right next to Mac Allister when it happened.
