Next, Yamagata Prefecture! A popular winter destination, Yamagata is known for fresh fruit, historic onsen, and ancient mountain Buddhist temple Risshaku-ji (also called Yamadera). Famous poet Matsuo Basho wrote one of his best-known haiku at Yamadera, inspired by the location✨
Last week, JET Program Offices across the US sent off over 1,000 professionals who will work in Japan as Assistant Language Teachers & Coordinators of International Relations. In DC, we celebrated 72 new JET's at a training & reception hosted by

Most JETs encounter Chiba Prefecture when they touch down at Narita Airport, but you should definitely return to this stretch of Kanto to explore an easily accessible and fascinating mix of old Japan and agricultural traditions that are a hop and a skip away from big city fun!

It’s been great to be back in Japan, where I lived for a year teaching English with the JET program.
I still appreciate a good Japanese vending machine (this one’s coffee to power through jet lag!).
Congratulations to our 2019 candidates for completing your interviews! We look forward to announcing the results in late March or early April. Best of luck to everyone!
Shizuoka Prefecture, a lush centrally located paradise with green trees and greener teas! 🍵 Unwind with a hot drink and a hot spring, scale Japan’s mightiest mountain (on the Shizuoka side), or get in touch with your spiritual side at one of the most important shrines in Japan⛩️
Fukushima Prefecture! The third biggest in Japan, its beautifully varied landscape has everything from seasides to forests to cities to explore. It's also home to the Miharu Takizakura, one of the three most famous cherry trees in Japan, estimated to be more than 1,000 years old!
The first character in our next Prefecture's name means “rich”, fitting for a place as vibrant and varied as Toyama. With its breathtaking beaches, fresh Toyama Bay seafood, and cultural excursions, you don’t have to be a millionaire to feel like you’ve hit the jackpot in Toyama!
The beautiful, intricate costumes pictured here are not the only draw of Hiroshima Prefecture's Miyajima Kiyomori Festival! This festival allows JETs and locals alike the opportunity to experience a piece of samurai history. Anyone fancy a journey through time?

Aichi Prefecture is near and dear to the JET Office, as two of our coordinators studied abroad there. With sacred shrines, the Studio Ghibli Park, and red miso on everything from local delicacies to conbini oden, all that's left to do is fall in love with Aichi like we have!
Sheltered between two peninsulas, Obama Bay in Fukui Pref. is a tranquil body of water. But just a short boat ride around the eastern peninsula reveals a magnificent geological structure, known as the Sotomo Arch, carved by the turbulent waves of the Japan Sea.
