Indie studio owners take advantage of the perception that their business is just a group of friends having fun together, and of their branding as "progressive", "wholesome", "authentic" or "creative", in order to disempower, abuse, and exploit the people who work for them.

This is a labour issue. These studio owners are bosses, and the people who work for them deserve a union. If the only image of indie games you have comes from biz owners (who are the ones given a platform in the media & at conferences), you have no idea

Don't let the studio owners make this a question of "good" vs "bad" bosses like they never fail do whenever a story like this comes out. This is about the fundamental lack of worker power in this industry. Don't provide cover for abuse by playing along with the empty branding.

@JDespland it's crazy how people are still missing the point. It's not people, it's the systems in place that enables them, it's just a cycle of changing leadership. Good leadership can't exist in an exploitative model.
