@TrueLaurels While I agree with what you are saying and haven’t seen American fiction he is right that seeing black people relive the same pain on screen grows tired

I love when Black people subconsciously express their disdain for other types of Black people. And the vitriol is typically pointed towards ones who are the most actively oppressed in our society.

"American Fiction" Oscar-winner Cord Jefferson on what the film's success means: "There is a market for depictions of Black life that are as broad and as deep as any other depictions of people's lives"

@ItIsClit Well that’s the reality of a lot of niggas in this country and this world. Critique the system, not the niggas who are gettin fucked by it. People wanna run away from the truth. Seeing some privileged niggas on the screen ain’t changing shit.

@TrueLaurels When I say this I less mean the projects and more slavery or police brutality being recreated with star power

@ItIsClit @TrueLaurels His point here and in American Fiction is that there is more than enough room for more than just the story of black struggle

@ItIsClit @TrueLaurels I think that's the whole reason this movie got made. The critique its making IS a little dated but there were black folks who were tired of seeing violence against black folks and other trauma on screen. I remember this being a thing on "X" when 12 Years a Slave came out.
