What started as Ukraine's buffer zone in Russia's Kursk region in August of 2024 is now as expected turning into a Russian buffer zone in the neighboring Sumy region of Ukraine. At least the North Korean troops aren't being deployed outside of Kursk region, not invading Ukraine.

Sumy city, the administrative center of Sumy Oblast could join the list of cities in Ukraine that have been reduced to rubble in the past 3 years already before the winter. Ukraine's 2024 Kursk offensive will end up being costly for the neighboring Sumy region of Ukraine.
