IOM & the
@_AfricanUnion
, under the AU-ILO-IOM-ECA Joint Labour Migration Programme
#JLMP
framework, are validating findings of a study mapping the pre-departure and post-arrival information needs of
#migrantworkers
on the East and Horn of Africa – Gulf
#labourmigration
corridor.
The mappings include 10 EHOA countries:
Burundi 🇧🇮
Djibouti 🇩🇯
Eritrea 🇪🇷
Ethiopia 🇪🇹
Kenya 🇰🇪
Rwanda 🇷🇼
Somalia 🇸🇴
South Sudan 🇸🇸
United Republic of Tanzania 🇹🇿
Uganda 🇺🇬
and 6 Gulf States:
Bahrain 🇧🇭
Kuwait 🇰🇼
Oman 🇴🇲
Qatar 🇶🇦
Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦
United Arab Emirates 🇦🇪
The mappings adopted the Comprehensive Information and Orientation Programme (CIOP) approach, a multi-country initiative that supports governments to implement harmonized, tailored, timely, responsive and needs-based orientation for current and prospective
#migrantworkers
.
CIOP focuses on 4 key orientations for helping
#migrantworkers
with information and advice at different points in the
#labourmigration
cycle:
▶️ Pre-Employment Orientation
▶️ Pre-Departure Orientation
▶️ Post-Arrival Orientation
▶️ Pre-Return Orientation
When adopting the AU Migration Policy Framework and Plan of Action (2018-2030), AU Member States underlined the importance of instruments to provide adequate information to potential migrants and those who have already left the country.
The two reports come at a time when the
@_AfricanUnion
is strengthening its partnership with the Gulf Cooperation Countries

through social dialogue & other multilateral mechanism that foster mutual rewards for the two economic blocks, while benefiting migrant workers.
