I’m not going to be satisfied until every Californian can find insurance on their own terms, which is what I’ve been working toward and what I will continue to work for in the remainder of my term as Insurance Commissioner. (end)

The untold story is this: real reform brings real resistance. From entrenched interests. From those who profited under the old system. But I’m not backing down. (4/X)

The reality is major homeowners carriers – Farmers, Mercury, CSAA, USAA, Pacific Specialty, and California Casualty – have publicly committed to stay and grow. Without that, we would have fewer options for protection, and these are the results I’ve committed to for years. (3/x)

While I disagree with the underlying premise of the reporting, I’ve never shied away from having an open dialogue on how to best fix our broken system. (2/x)

The LATimes stories by @paigestjohn underscore just how deep and long-simmering the roots of California’s insurance crisis are — and how much hard work is required to fix it. (1/x)

For 30 years under past Commissioners, no coverage guarantee of any kind existed. This is an undeniable first and we are focused on stopping the growth of the FAIR Plan and making these regulations work for those who need coverage the most. (end)

All eyes are on insurance companies including mine and the @NYTimes. I won’t accept another 30 years of stagnant regulations. I’m here to finish the job — and leave the next Commissioner in a stronger position than I inherited. (2/2)

We built the Sustainable Insurance Strategy knowing that insurance companies and intervenors would prod and probe for loopholes they think they can exploit. This is not a surprise to anyone that has dealt with them. If it is, welcome to Earth. https://t.co/ZAT4QUh9nJ (1/3)

New regulations were supposed to ensure that homeowners in fire zones would have coverage available. But companies can still avoid serving many high-risk areas, a Times investigation found.

I call on our insurance companies to support their policyholders, and our federal leaders to do their job and end this needless crisis. While the shutdown continues it is crucial for us at the state level to take every possible measure to protect those who rely on federal funds.
.@ICRicardoLara is taking action for California’s 160,000 federal workers and small businesses while the government shutdown continues – urging insurance companies to help those financially affected. https://t.co/X9Xv5ag6AZ (1/2)

I have driven organizational transformation at our Department to focus on anticipating risks not just reacting to them. By collaborating with other state emergency agencies we can enhance our preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. My full statement

Glad to talk with @ZavalaA about progress to fixing our insurance crisis. Companies are committing to stay and grow unlike in the past when they raised rates but dropped policies. We will not declare victory prematurely. I'm working with @CAgovernor Newsom to build momentum (1/2)
I asked California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara if insurance rates will allow for more rapid rate increases. He said increases requested by several companies are still under review. “To be determined if that’s going to be the final rate…” https://t.co/tCw4Urllt3

I was at #ClimateWeekNYC announcing we are bringing a global solution to Los Angeles protecting our iconic sidewalk vendors from extreme heat. The best ideas don’t always start in California. They come when we get out of our siloes and work across borders.
.@ICRicardoLara announced a new partnership with @InclusivAction @RWJF, Climate Resilience for All & @SwissRe. This is about protecting lives, protecting livelihoods, and building a more resilient California. #climateweek2025 #extremeheat #climatechange #insureCA

Insurance Commissioner @ICRicardoLara is urging @CAGovernor Gavin Newsom to sign 11 bills that passed the Legislature & are awaiting his approval. These measures enhance consumer protections by expanding wildfire resilience and improving access to health coverage statewide. (1/4)

We have gathered experts on smoke and toxic damage to establish remediation standards so individuals do not return to unsafe homes. Just as we have done after every catastrophe, our efforts will continue until all claims are settled fairly and people are safely back home. (4/5)

However, there is still more work to be done. I appreciate @CAgovernor Newsom’s support for our investigation into the FAIR Plan and the Legislature’s support for new laws aimed at preventing future disasters and expanding consumer protections for survivors. (3/5)

We are fixing California’s insurance crisis by requiring more coverage where people need it most. For the first time California insurance rates will factor in the wildfire safety actions at every level. People are scared — we are bringing solutions.
“Under existing regulations, insurers have raised rates without guaranteeing coverage or committing to Californians, causing distress for homeowners. That ends now,” said @icricardolara. Read more here:
