We study ecological and evolutionary drivers of invasion success, primarily in plants.

Really excited to see this paper finally out! It was a full lab field trip to re-sample an experiment we started in 2003. Replacement of #Phalaris arundinacea with swamp forest is underway. Three cheers for long-term data!
Spraying glyphosate (late fall), then planting bareroot woody species at high densities (early spring) converts reed canarygrass field to young swamp forest 🌱 This breaks feedbacks and jumpstarts stalled succession from #invasive species dominance! 📈 🔗 https://t.co/s8UBRISfrL

Just read this great article by @mcewanlab on Callery Pear on the Conversation (thanks google news feed!). Really nice overview of this invasive species introduced broadly by the landscaping industry and now spreading to natural areas in our region!

Last point - IMO (Steve here) Columbus is a great city (no longer a "cow town") and our dept is really collegial and supportive, particularly for junior faculty. I feel fortunate to have landed here and see great things ahead for future colleagues!!

Really interesting review on what motivates people to volunteer for invasive species control/management projects! Complete with suggestions for running such groups effectively. Great read!
Knowing the importance of #CitizenScience in the study and management of #BiologicalInvasions, we analyzed and discussed the #motivations guiding #volunteers to engage in #InvasiveAlienSpecies monitoring and control. Results of @aliencsi1 #COST project https://t.co/I2fx3B56M7

European starlings steal cattle feed, consume crops and have even brought down an airplane. But the story of how they became a North American pest has been debunked.
nytimes.com
Researchers debunked a long-repeated yarn that the common birds owe their North American beginnings to a 19th-century lover of the Bard. Maybe this ubiquitous bird’s story is ready for a reboot.

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in doing a meta-analysis!
If you are an ecologist contemplating your first meta-analysis, I will be giving a free webinar hosted by @ana_pineda_ on January 14th about benefits of meta-analysis for #ECR, things to consider before you start and common mistakes to avoid

Top #urbanevolution papers of 2021: Humans are increasingly a dominant driver of evolution. One of the most stunning examples of this is how urbanization affects species' evolution. Here is my curated list of the top 10 #urbanevolution2021 papers, in no particular order
