The Respiratory Physiology Team are pleased to have been able to support the AERATOR study in demonstrating that spirometry and FeNO generate less aerosols than coughing. 🫁

Understanding the epidemiology and long term implications of Preserved ratio impaired spirometry (PRISm) #COPD #multimorbidity Great working with @HigbeeDaniel Raquel Granell and @mendel_random @mrc_ieu @BristolARU
NEW Research—PRISm in the gen pop was 11% and was strongly associated w/ breathlessness and CV disease. PRISm = a distinct lung function trait, not simply a result of 📈 BMI, underlying asthma, or smoking. Read the cohort analysis from James Dodd & co https://t.co/k9E9xdONAV

This two-sample multivariable Mendelian randomisation study provides strong evidence that FVC (but not FEV1 or FEV1/FVC <0.7) is causally associated with coronary artery disease https://t.co/65oz1LkvWv

If you are a medical, dentistry or vet student who is considering intercalating next year, why not consider our iBSc in genomic medicine at the University of Bristol and get ahead of the genomics revolution in medicine. Please RT.
Calling Medical, Dentistry and Vet students with an interest in how genomics is influencing clinical practice: Check out the @mrc_ieu @MedicalBristol intercalation degree in 🧬Genomic Medicine 🧬2021-22 📅 deadline: 1st March More info: https://t.co/JGxgNYIq3X

People with #asthma are more vulnerable to the negative mental health impact of #lockdown. This is not explained by mental or physical comorbidities and highlights the need to provide support for #anxiety and #depression in younger people with asthma. https://t.co/wfyuA9ewLK

Calling all Bristol followers: we have 240 Bristolians enrolled in https://t.co/1UDpd8dlr4 and want to find 70 more adults aged 30+ by 29th May. Volunteers receive either Valneva or AZ vaccine (randomised 2:1). Please retweet or otherwise let people who might be interested know.

Sorry you are being forced to quit the NHS @DrOKaneAgain and all due to government enforced circumstances
A big thank you to @RishiSunak for a an enormous kick in the teeth today! After 34 years in the NHS & spending the last 12 months caring for COVID patients, Rishi is forcing me & thousands of other NHS consultants to quit the NHS to protect our pensions. (1/2)

Asthma therapy, including monoclonal antibodies, was not associated with #COVID19 infection or hospitalisation in a UK severe asthma population. Shielding led to a reported worsening of mental health in nearly half of patients contacted (47%). https://t.co/NR7eJq0FjX

Great to he able to share this important data. Thanks to the huge efforts of @gushamilton in particular and @BristolARU team led by @Nickmaskell1 supported by @DavidT_Arnold @CarrR and many more @NBT_ICU @BristolUni @NorthBristolNHS .
Coughing patients may pose greater health risk than previously thought, suggesting surgical masks may be inadequate to protect health workers: https://t.co/k4sm6HU0hj

3/n cont.. Conclusions #PRISm affects 8% of adults of whom ~40% report CVS comorbidity. Has shared genetic assoc with asthma & COPD. Implication for new therapeutics / screening, in particular whether this may reduce transition to #COPD & CVS disease. https://t.co/bIVvVZclUv

Rationale Preserved ratio impaired spirometry (PRISm) is defined as Forced Expiratory Volume in one second <80% predicted with a FEV1/Forced Vital Capacity of>0.70. It may be a precursor of COPD and...

Our new paper cont. 2/n : (PRISm) GWAS discovered 4 associated SNPs and 8 genes. 2 SNPs have not been described with respiratory disease before. Other genetic loci identified are known to increase risk of asthma and COPD, and influence response to inhaled steroids.
