HAPPENING NOW: Outreach workers are rushing to get people living in the encampment at Ambaum Blvd & 12th Ave into shelter or setup with drug addiction services. That’s because the city is now putting out “hard enforcement” of the public camping ban, according to a city official.

Burien Chief of Police Theodore Boe tells me anyone who refuses to move after services are offered will be arrested under the new city ordinance, but they’re delaying that now to give time for more outreach workers to arrive.

Among the services people are being directed to — the tent village behind Oasis Home Church. It’s the same property that previously received a notice from Burien saying the village was operating without a permit.

Boe says if anyone is arrested, they’ll be referred to a social assistance program that works with LE to find them shelter so they are not jailed. The chief also says as of today, there is shelter availability, but if that changes, they will stop trying to clear people here.

@HeySamCampbell That’s the way it’s supposed to work. It’s in the best interest of all.
