Struggling to retain teachers in Australia also. This is interesting ๐
Over 90% of Finnish teachers remain in education for their entire careers. Meanwhile, in the U.S., we struggle to keep 90% through the first year. Whatโs the difference? ๐ซ๐ฎ Finnish teachers teach about 50% fewer hoursโthe rest is dedicated to planning, collaboration, and

@BenCarrollMP Your government has caused Victorian teachers to be the lowest paid in the country.

I am convinced you could replace every PD day with a teacher work day and it would be ten times more productive.

Just a quick reminder - you need enough half decent teachers left by 2028 to teach *any* curriculum.

Only when the job is so overwhelming will people realise that we can't make children smarter, or happier by.. Starting school earlier Testing earlier Testing more frequently Making the curriculum bigger Making the school day longer Pretending that SEN + mainstream are the same

Teachers leave (or plan to leave) the profession primarily because of unsustainable workloads, poor administrative support, limited autonomy, and inadequate pay.

We lose so many teachers who leave every year. They don't leave because they don't enjoy teaching. It is everything else that goes with it that pushes them over.

"schools keep adding w/o subtracting piling on mandates w/o lengthening the school day/year. Teachers are asked to be social workers, therapists..as much as educators. The result is predictable. Students graduate short on disciplinary knowledge & long on slogans"

During Covid schools allowed teachers the option to arrive at a later time and leave early if they didn't have a scheduled class. It is possible to maintain this now. @BenCarrollMP @AEUfederal could this be included in the next agreement to retain teachers?

It is disappointing to hear that principals in Melbourne government schools refusing reductions in time fractions, denying leave applications, making staff stay insite until 4:30-4:45pm until the clock ticks over. #teachershortage

The work/life balance for teachers has never been worse and itโs making it hard to retain high quality teachers.

Educators have ZERO control over any of these. ๐ค๐ Stop placing ALL the blame on teachers and schools.

Well done to Melton Secondary College for advertising classroom teacher positions with 1 day to WFH. This principal sounds like they care about staff wellbeing, retaining staff and get the best outcomes for students. All schools need this @@VicGovDE @BenCarrollMP @JacintaAllanMP

I get that this is not an easy fix but teachers in Victoria have mandatory professional learning and meetings every week and are required to do parent teacher interviews outside of work hours (past 6pm). Reduce to allow teachers time to plan and mark. @BenCarrollMP
A new report has found nine out of ten teachers are suffering from severe stress, with a third considering quitting. Dr Helena Granziera from UNSW Sydney, who conducted the research, joins @mikeamor7. https://t.co/5zYfOfGqUb

With 1600+ jobs currently advertised in Victorian schools, you would think principals would allow teachers to work part-time. I'm hearing some horror stories about principals in metropolitan Melbourne at the moment. @VicGovDE @BenCarrollMP You need to look at the data!

Why are teachers expected to have a Position of Responsibility, on top of their teaching role. What other profession mandates that an employee have an a additional role (sometimes outside of the skill set of that person)? Isn't teaching enough? @AEUfederal @BenCarrollMP

QLD Teachers are demanding better pay and conditions through strike action which I support. Meanwhile the Victorian Teachers Union wants teachers picketing outside government members offices in their own time after school. Very little impact. Do better @AEUfederal @AEUVictoria
