Using the tool we developed highly accurate models (average dice score of 0.94 ± 0.06) to automatically detect and quantify the area of the deep-sea sponge Mycale lingua, in both Remotely Operated Vehicle video frames, and images captured from an underwater observatory (2/3).

No machine learning experience was required to utilise this tool. A detailed manual covering it’s installation and the training process (specifically for marine images) can be found here: . We hope you enjoy training your models as much as we did! 🎨🎨.

Models developed with the tool performed well on both time-lapse imagery from an underwater observatory and ROV video frames! In-built corrective annotation metrics guided the decisions to stop training and aided the assessment of model success.
