In truth this argument fails because it is comparing two completely separate mediums for virtually 0 reason if you actually played any halfway decent visual novel you would know insinuating they're just books with pictures or dumb books is stupid
The dimension interactivity provides, the visual elements music and audio are all absent from books which makes VNs have their own differences and strengths like just about every single medium ever made
It is impossible to find a way to turn something like muramasa into a regular novels without losing the weight behind your choices, the way it plays with the affection meter and it's route structure which explores heroism through choices you have made
unless you make a weird wacky choose your own adventure book and even then the visuals audio and music are not portable which can be very important in their own right, many VNs use their art framing and perspective to reinforce ideas or themes
similarly trying to port any book to a visual medium will kill a lot of what is left up to the reader to interpret using their imagination comparing them in any way is stupid
